RoleWe have an exciting new development for Health Care Support Workers to join the team supporting individuals referred to Police Custody Health Care (PCHC).

The Healthcare Support Worker supports healthcare staff to deliver care in line with the standards and policies of healthcare provision in the NHS/PCHC. The role involves assisting healthcare professionals to ensure that the physical environment is safe, clean, comfortable and suitable for persons referred for care, and contributes to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those individuals by being an active and supportive member of the team.

This is a diverse role that requires a high standard of support to the PCHC team, enabling healthcare to be delivered to a population with a comprehensive range of physical, psychological, substance misuse and social problems, while maintaining high awareness and compliance with security procedures within the PCHC environment.

Applicants should have completed SVQIII in healthcare or equivalent experience gained working in a caring environment; be competent in the use of computerised information systems including MS Office and have well‐developed communication skills, both written and oral. A driving licence is required for the peripatetic and regional service.

Duration, Location and Working Pattern

Permanent part‐time post of 17.4 hours per week.

Location based in Govan Police Station.

Shift pattern: 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Key Responsibilities

Work as part of the multi‐disciplinary team, working the rostered shift pattern and support the delivery of care to persons referred in PCHC.

Report to the direct nurse line manager and undertake duties/tasks as allocated and instructed by the shift coordinator.

Utilise available resources to maximum effect while effectively meeting the essential demands of patient care and service delivery.

Support data input and audit processes within the service, ensuring continuous development to meet ongoing needs of the PCHC service.

Qualifications and Experience

SVQIII in healthcare or equivalent experience gained working in a caring environment or role.

Competence in the use of computerised information systems including MS Office.

Well‐developed communication skills, both written and oral.

Ability to effectively meet the demands of a challenging workload.

Ability to work with people as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to prioritise assigned workload.

Work‐Life Balance and Flexible WorkingFrom 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‐time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part‐time working hours will be reduced on a pro‐rated basis, with a corresponding increase in the hourly rate to keep overall pay unchanged.
