Job description

The Community Inpatient Unit provides short-term, bed‐based rehabilitation, re‐enablement, and recovery support for individuals following illness, injury, surgery, or significant health events. The service promotes independence, prevents unnecessary hospital admission or long‐term care placement, and supports timely hospital discharges. Care is delivered by multidisciplinary teams including nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and care staff.

Hours: 24 a week, permanent

Salary Range: £24,968 pro rata per annum, fixed salary point.

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Healthcare assistant to join the multidisciplinary team at Community Inpatient Unit (CIU) providing nursing and enablement services to patients within the rehab and recovery inpatient unit.

As a Health Care Assistant, you will be responsible for the delivery of personal and nutritional care for patients and an element of clinical care, undertaking observations, basic dressings, swabs, etc., expanding clinical skills over time. You will work with a team of recovery workers and be responsible for the coordination of direct care for a cohort of individuals, working under the Assistant Practitioner and nurses.

Job responsibilitiesThe role involves providing direct patient care, monitoring health indicators, maintaining accurate records, communicating effectively with patients and the wider team, and upholding confidentiality and empathy in all interactions.

Experience of working with patients

Experience of using SystmOne

Knowledge and Skills

Effective and proven computer skills

Ability to work on your own and as part of a wider team

An awareness of own competencies and willingness to seek guidance where needed

Ability to maintain clear and accurate records both electronically and in writing, to deadlines

Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with people who have a wide range of healthcare needs

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity

Ability to deal effectively with confrontational situations

Knowledge of SystmOne clinical system

Knowledge of community nursing and primary care

To have a range of clinical skills, such as wound care, eye care, pressure area care, venepuncture, bowel/bladder care, blood pressure monitoring, and blood sugar monitoring

Qualifications

QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care

Level 2 qualification in Numeracy and Literacy or equivalent level of competence
