IT & AI Solutions Intern

Job description

The OpportunityMetLife UK is expanding how we use Artificial Intelligence to support our customers, colleagues, and business operations. We are looking for an early‐career IT Intern (12‐month fixed‐term contract) to support the delivery of AI‐enabled solutions, ranging from Microsoft Copilot and agentic AI to the enterprise IT foundations required for more complex, scalable solutions.

This role is ideal for someone at the start of their technology career who is curious about AI, enjoys learning how systems fit together, and wants hands‐on experience working on real production solutions rather than isolated experiments. You will work alongside experienced IT, data, and business colleagues, gaining exposure to both modern AI tooling and the core IT disciplines that make enterprise‐grade AI possible.

Key Responsibilities

Support the design, build, and testing of AI‐enabled solutions across MetLife UK, including:

Agentic AI and workflow automation

Productivity and business process enhancements

Assist with the technical components that underpin enterprise AI solutions, such as:

Integrations with existing systems and data sources

Identity, access, and security considerations

Environments, configuration, and deployment support

Work with senior engineers and architects to understand how AI solutions scale from proof of concept to enterprise‐ready services.

Help document solution designs, technical decisions, and operational considerations in line with internal governance and regulatory expectations.

Participate in testing, issue investigation, and continuous improvement of AI tools already in use.

Learn how AI is applied responsibly and safely in a regulated insurance environment, including data protection, risk, and control considerations.

Collaborate with colleagues across IT, data, and the business to translate real operational needs into technical solutions.

Required Qualifications

Completed a science‐based bachelor's degree such as Computer Science or a related discipline (preference for students academically involved in computer science, information technology, information systems, computer engineering, mathematics).

Comfortable using Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).

Strong written communication skills; you will write prompts, instructions, and documentation every day.

Logical, structured thinking; able to break a process into steps and spot where automation could help.

Able to commit to a 12‐month internship (with potential for extension or graduate opportunities).

Able to work from our Brighton HQ daily during training, then revert to our hybrid working arrangements, 2 days in the office.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong technical curiosity and entrepreneurial mindset.

Excellent problem‐solving and analysis skills.

Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Relevant campus involvement, work experience, and/or community service experience.

Working understanding of AI concepts and experience applying productivity tools as part of day‐to‐day work to support effective data‐driven work and delivery effectiveness.

Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio or Power Platform.

Familiarity with Claude, ChatGPT, or any prompt‐engineering practice.

Basic understanding of how APIs or integrations work.

Experience in insurance, financial services, or a regulated industry.
