Rent & Service Charge Officer (temp: Central London)

Between £26.00 and £30.00 Per Hour

Job description

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Rent & Service Charge Officer to join one of Adecco's most improved public sector clients in a temporary assignment until our client recruits permanently to the post (£38,637 - £40,404 per annum).

Based in Central London but working hybridly (4 days each week in the office), this is a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional with experience in income management, rent accounting, or service charge environments to step into a role where your work has a direct and visible impact on local communities. You will be working full time (35 hours each week, Monday to Friday) and reporting directly into our client's Management Accountant.

With responsibility for approximately 1,600 homes and £8m+ annual income, you'll play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, supporting residents, and helping drive service excellence.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Work for a resident-led organisation with a proven 25-year track record and 90%+ resident backing
  • Be part of a collaborative, purpose-driven team delivering real social value
  • Gain exposure across rent accounting, service charges, reporting, and tenant engagement
  • Join an organisation investing in technology, service improvement, and community impact

Key Responsibilities:

You'll support the accurate management of rental income and service charge data, including:

Rent & Income Management

  • Processing rent payments and tenant charges
  • Reconciling income and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Ensuring Housing Benefit / Universal Credit adjustments are correctly applied

Arrears & Monitoring

  • Tracking rent arrears and producing reports
  • Supporting housing teams in managing and reducing outstanding balances

Financial Reporting

  • Contributing to monthly and quarterly income reporting
  • Supporting audits and ensuring compliance with financial controls

Service Charges

  • Assisting with service charge calculations and cost allocations
  • Supporting year-end statements and billing cycles
  • Ensuring fair apportionment in line with lease agreements

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Responding to tenant queries on rent accounts
  • Working closely with housing colleagues and finance teams

What we are looking for:

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • Experience in finance, housing income management, or rent accounting
  • Strong background in financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting support
  • Exposure to service charge processes (highly desirable)
  • Excellent Excel and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to spot discrepancies
  • Confident communication skills - able to explain financial information clearly

As the client is keen for the candidate to hit the ground running previous experience of carrying out a similar role with a public sector housing client in the last two years would be hugely beneficial (but not essential) Only applicants who feel they meet the above criteria, are happy to work in Central London 4 days each week and can start on short notice (1-2 weeks maximum) need apply.
