Job description
Associate Search Consultant: Legal/ Strategic Executive Search
Seeking 2026 Graduates
About the firm
Our client is a specialist executive search firm focused on the legal, financial services and transformation mandates.
This is genuinely consultative work. The firm operates on a retained search model, advising leadership teams on senior, strategic, and Board-level hires where discretion, market judgement, and depth of insight matter far more than transactional volume. Their consultants don't fill jobs — they shape teams, advise founders, and influence the leadership composition of the businesses driving the next phase of the global economy.
The role
The Associate Search Consultant position is the firm's entry route into executive search. You'd be working alongside senior consultants on live retained mandates, building the foundational skills of search, market mapping, longlisting, candidate engagement, and strategic insight before progressing into running your own mandates and client relationships.
This is not a high-volume contingent sales role. The cadence is slower, the work is deeper, and the conversations are with senior leaders, founders, and investors. You'd learn to think like a market specialist, write like an advisor, and engage like a peer to the executives you're representing.
What you'd be doing
- Strategic market mapping — building a detailed view of the sustainability talent landscape across one or more sub-sectors (e.g. Clean power, hydrogen, climate finance, mobility, energy storage)
- Research and intelligence work — informing client briefs with real market data: who's hiring, who's moving, where the depth of talent sits, and what compensation looks like at the senior end
- Candidate identification and engagement — sourcing, qualifying, and building relationships with senior candidates, often passive and Board-level
- Supporting retained mandates end-to-end — partnering with senior consultants on live searches, attending client briefings, contributing to longlist and shortlist presentations, and learning the full search methodology
- Client and candidate communication — drafting briefs, position specifications, candidate profiles, and market intelligence reports
- Sector specialism development — over time, becoming a credible voice in one of the firm's verticals, with the platform of an established brand behind you
Who they're looking for
The strongest hires into this role are not necessarily those with prior recruitment experience — but rather candidates with the intellectual curiosity, commercial instinct, and resilience to operate as advisors to senior leaders from day one.
You'd be a strong fit if you have
- A 2026 degree-level education (any discipline — the firm hires across STEM, humanities, business, and social sciences)
- Strong commercial or sales exposure — whether through internships, placement years, retail/luxury sales, or running your own venture
- An interest in sustainability, climate, or the energy transition — explicit prior expertise is not required, but genuine curiosity is essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication — you'll be drafting client-facing material from early in the role
- Resilience and self-discipline — search is a slower-burn discipline than contingent recruitment, requiring patience and rigour
- Coachability and intellectual humility — the senior consultants you'd be working alongside have decades of experience, and the learning curve is real
- Language skills (French, German, Dutch, Spanish, or Nordic languages) are a strong asset given the firm's pan-European mandate base, but not essential
What's on offer
- A genuine route into executive search, not just recruitment — the difference matters in terms of long-term career trajectory and the calibre of work you'd be exposed to
- Direct mentorship from senior consultants with established sector specialisms and Board-level networks
- Exposure to high-impact mandates from day one — partnering with founders, investors, and senior leadership teams across one of the most consequential sectors in the global economy
- A clear progression path from Associate Search Consultant → Search Consultant → Senior Consultant → Engagement Manager → Principal
- Competitive base salary plus retained-model commission structure (specifics shared on the call)
- Hybrid working with a London office base, plus international travel where mandates require it
- A platform for sector profile-building — including the opportunity to contribute to the firm's market analysis, podcasts, and thought leadership
