PurposeofJob HGV Driver

ToleadateamofWasteOperativesundertakingthecollectionofhouseholdandcommercialwaste.Teamswillberesponsibleforcollectinggeneralwasteorrecyclablesororganicsorbulky(special)wasteitemsfromavarietyoflocationsincludinghouses,flattedestates,shops,schools,Councilbuildingsetc.

MainDuties HGV Driver

• TosuperviseandleadateamofWasteOperativesprovidingwastecollectionservices.Toprovideservicesinaccordancewithadailyworkschedule,givingassistedcollectionstoidentifiedresidents.Asrequired,toreturntopropertiesforlatecollectionsormissedbins.

• Toensureallpersonalprotectiveequipment(PPE)iswornandthattheworkingpracticesemployedindealingwithwasteinwheeledbins,sacksandcommunalcontainersreflectallHealth&Safetyrequirements.Asrequired,ensureallaccidentsarereported.

• Toensurespecialorbulkywasteitemsaremovedandloadedinaccordancewithgoodhealth&safetypractice.EnsureitemsaresortedbytypeonthevehicletoenablethemtobesafelyandcarefullyunloadedtoseparateareaswithintheCouncilsdisposalsite.ToensureelectricalandelectronicitemsareseparatelyhandledinaccordancewiththeWEEE(WasteElectricalandElectronicEquipment)Directiveand,whereapplicable,thehazardouswastecriteria.

• Toensurethevariouswastetypesarepresentedintheappropriatecontainersand,wherenecessary,ensureresidentsareprovidedwithrelevantinformationontherangeofservicesthattheCouncilprovidestogetherwiththerulessurroundingtheirrespectiveuse.Asnecessary:-
• recordfailurestousetheappropriatecontainersonthedailyroundsheetasevidencetosupportthelevyingoffuturefines
• arrangeforcontaminatedloadstobecollectedasgeneralwaste

• Tomaintainknowledgeandawarenessoftherequirementssurroundingtheseparatehandlingandtreatmentofhazardouswastesandreportincidencesrequiringfollow-upactiontotheWasteSupervisor.

• Asappropriate,toprovideassistanceincollectingandloadingwastestothevehicle.

• Todeliverwastetotheappropriatesitefordisposal/processing,ensuringallsitedelivery,transportationandunloadingrulesandregulationsarefollowed.

• Toreceivespecialistmanufacturerstraininginvehiclesandvehiclerelatedequipmentandattaintherequiredstandard.

• Toundertaketrainingsessions,asrequired,tofullymeettheobligationsandregulationsassociatedwiththeretentionoftheDriversCPC.

• Toundertakedailycheckstothelargegoodsvehicle(LGV)inaccordancewithmanufacturersinstructionsandreportanydefectsordamagetotheOperationalSupervisorandFleetManagement.

• Toberesponsibleforthesafedrivinganduseofthevehicleinheavytrafficandinresidentialareas.Todealwithproblemsarisingfromparkedcarsandotherobstructionstoaccess.
