Junior Clinical Teaching Fellow – Emergency Department
This role is a dedicated one-year teaching fellowship in the Emergency Department (ED) at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, partnered with Peninsula Medical School. The ED is the largest teaching and acute hospital in the South West, providing general and regional specialist services to a diverse population.
Job Purpose
As a teaching fellow, you will facilitate student learning on the shop floor of the ED. You will teach small groups of students in years 3 and 4 during one-week pathways, culminating in a consultant-led clinical reasoning session. You will provide tutorials, deliver clinical skills teaching and assess competencies.
Year 5 students work in 6-week blocks. You will guide and support their clerking of patients and clinical skills practice, and provide case-based teaching and discussion.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver teaching sessions to small groups of medical students on the ED floor.
Provide tutorials, clinical skills instruction, and competency assessment.
Guide Year 5 students during their 6-week placements, supporting patient clerking and case discussions.
Present consultant-led clinical reasoning workshops at the end of each student pathway week.
Attend academic term time only; no clinical service or on-call duties are expected.
Take annual leave during medical school holidays.
Contribute to personal and career development, with the option to complete a PGCert if desired.
