Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in General Surgery, based at Royal Lancaster Hospital. The successful applicant will be required to complete the ACP course based at a local University at masters level. This post is to commence from September 2026.

Location and Travel
The post holder will be required to travel between all three hospital sites within UHMB including at Kendal, Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness.

Role and Responsibilities
The role blends direct, higher level clinical care with education, management activities with a focus on Governance and as such the post holder is expected to build working relationships across the local health community. The ability to initiate, sustain and evaluate change is essential. The Trainee General Surgery ACP will work closely with the existing General Surgery team and a team of multi-disciplinary staff within the Surgical Division, including Consultants, and Specialist Nurses.

To work at the level outlined in the HEE Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice (2017) with equal focus on all four pillars of advanced clinical practice: Clinical, Leadership/management, education, and research/audit.

Provide and facilitate the delivery of highly specialised care for patients.

Be responsible for providing expert practice through leadership, consultation, clinical advice, teaching and support for staff.

Service development will be an integral part of the post going forward.

Hospitals and Services
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
