Job description

Junior Product Designer - E-commerce & Subscriptions London - Commercial
Company Overview Since 1843, The Economist Group has championed independence, excellence and openness, helping people understand and tackle the critical challenges shaping the world. Today, we are building on that legacy as a global media and information‐services company powered by digital innovation, analytical rigour and evidence‐based insight.
We deliver trusted analysis and insights to individuals and organisations in more than 170 countries. We empower decision‐makers to make sense of change and chart a course through an increasingly complex world.
We are developing a world‐class product and design organisation and have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Product Designer based in London to help us design exceptional web and mobile app experiences that drive subscriber acquisition and retention.
The Role We are looking for a Junior Product Designer to join our e-commerce and subscriptions product area, focusing on improving acquisition and retention. You'll help drive anonymous users to register, convert non‐subscribers to paid subscribers, optimise checkout flows, and encourage self‐serve account management.
You will work in cross‐functional teams of engineers and product managers, supported by senior product designers. You should produce end‐to‐end user experiences and create design deliverables ready for engineering. Your work will uphold The Economist brand digitally, maintaining our high bar of visual quality while respecting technical constraints to create intuitive user flows.
You will demonstrate knowledge and experience across different parts of the design process: sketching, creating prototypes, and working through varying levels of fidelity. From user research to wireframes and user flows through testing and validation, you will develop into a rounded product designer with coaching and guidance from more senior members of the design team.
Responsibilities Work with key partners across product, editorial, marketing and data to achieve shared goals.
Carry out user research to understand user behaviour and identify needs.
Translate insights into testable artefacts like sketches, user flows or interactive prototypes that use The Economist brand to test assumptions and ideas.
With support from other designers, map out user flows and journeys into easy‐to‐understand formats that broaden the team's understanding.
Create production‐ready design assets and work with engineers to ensure a high‐quality experience is shipped.
Actively participate in workshops and design sprints that bring stakeholders and others into the product development journey.
Regularly share work with your team and designers, communicating progress and design rationale.
Who you are You have a portfolio that demonstrates your design process and core craft skills across different screen sizes.
You understand technologies used to build world‐class digital product experiences and fundamentals of accessible design, and you have a keen eye for quality, usability and consistency.
You are familiar with prototyping and design tools like Miro and Figma; experience with AI‐enabled prototyping tools is a plus.
You are a clear communicator either verbally or in writing and are fluent in English.
You seek opportunities to learn and grow your hard and soft skills through feedback and self‐reflection.
LI‐Hybrid
Working Arrangements The majority of our roles operate on a hybrid working pattern, with 3+ days office attendance required.
AI usage for your application We encourage the use of technology, but any information you provide must truthfully and accurately reflect your own experience, skills and qualifications.
What we offer Our benefits package supports wellbeing, growth and work‐life balance, including a competitive pension or 401(k) plan, private health insurance, and 24/7 access to counselling and wellbeing resources through our Employee Assistance Program.
We also offer lifestyle benefits such as a Work From Anywhere program (up to 25 days a year), generous annual and parental leave, dedicated days off for volunteering and moving home, and free access to all Economist content including online subscription, apps, podcasts and more.
