An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a busy Hospital Portering team within the Directorate of Estates, Facilities & PFI. The post holder will be responsible for a full range of Portering duties within the Portering Department at County Hospital.
The Portering service is a 24hour, 365 day service. This post is a zero hour role however, the successful candidate will be expected to support the department through busy periods as well as to cover annual leave and absences through a shift pattern of 7am - 3pm, 3pm to 11pm and 11pm to 7am. Although at times may be requested to work outside of these hours in order to deliver a fast paced service.
Pay
Staff will also benefit from enhanced payments on top of their basic hourly pay as outlined below:
Basic pay: £12.92 per hour with and additional 12% WTD pay as a bank worker.
Additional Payments
Unsociable hours - for all hours worked between the hours of 20:00pm to 6:00am, an additional 41% will be paid per hour on top of basic payment.
Saturday Working - for all hours worked on a Saturday, an additional 41% will be paid per hour on top of basic payment.
Sunday Working - for all hours worked on a Sunday, an additional 83% will be paid per hour on top of basic payment.
Main duties of the job
We are currently looking to recruit enthusiastic persons to join our Portering bank team who provide and maintain a professional, efficient, effective and timely service to patients, visitors and departments. Experience in this type of role is beneficial but is not essential as full training can be given.
A flexible approach to work, smart appearance, good communication skills and a high standard of customer care is required.
The position will involve long periods of walking, patient transfers, waste removal and moving bulky items from various parts of the hospital as required.

Skills and Experience Previous experience in a Portering or patient facing role would be an advantage, as would previous NHS experience, but not essential as full training can be given.

Education and Qualifications
Verbal & Written communication, able to speak clearly, read & write English
Basic computer skills
NVQ Customer Care Level II (or similar)
Certificate in Manual Handling
Gas Handling certificate (BOC or equivalent)
Fire Safety Training
Experience
Basic working knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations
Dealing with complaints
Customer Care/ Working in a customer led environment
Working knowledge of Portering Procedure and Policy
Working with Portering operational systems & equipment.
