Job Title: Children's Solo Residential Home Support Worker

Location: Stanley

Salary: Starting at £27,762 per annum

Hours: Full-time / Part-time / Shift Work including days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins

Reports To: Registered Manager / Deputy Manager

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, child-centred care and support to a young person living in a solo residential home. The role involves promoting the child's safety, well-being, independence, emotional development, and positive outcomes while creating a stable, nurturing, and therapeutic home environment.

Key Responsibilities

Care and Support

  • Provide consistent, compassionate, and professional support tailored to the individual needs of the child or young person.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships that promote emotional security and resilience.
  • Support the child with daily living activities, including personal care where appropriate, meal preparation, budgeting, education, health appointments, and recreational activities.
  • Encourage and promote independence, life skills, and personal development.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while acting as a positive role model.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns in accordance with company policies and statutory guidance.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
  • Support challenging behaviours using therapeutic approaches.
  • Adhere to policy and procedure.

Care Planning and Record Keeping

  • Contribute to individual records and reviewing.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records, including daily logs, incident reports, and key work sessions.

Education and Development

  • Support and encourage attendance, engagement, and achievement in education, training, or employment.
  • Promote and support participation in social, cultural, and recreational activities.
  • Advocate for the child's wishes, feelings, and aspirations.

Household Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming home environment.
  • Support with household tasks including cleaning, shopping, meal preparation, and vehicle checks where required.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are maintained at all times.

Teamwork and Professional Practice

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, social workers, families, schools, healthcare professionals, and other agencies.
  • Attend supervision sessions, team meetings, and mandatory training.
  • Contribute positively to the development and improvement of the service.
  • Participate in sleep-in duties as required.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with children and young people in a residential, social care, education, or support setting.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children.
  • Strong communication, report-writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Flexible approach to working shifts, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins.
  • Full UK driving licence (is desirable).

Desirable Criteria

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards).
  • Experience working in solo or children’s residential settings.
  • Knowledge of attachment theory, and therapeutic approaches.
  • Experience supporting children with sensory, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Understanding of Ofsted regulations and Children's Homes Regulations 2015.
