MainDutiesandResponsibilities

VehicleShuntingandYardOperations

• Safelyshuntandmanoeuvrewastecollectionvehicles,trailers,andassociatedplantwithinthedepotandwastetransferstation.
• Positionvehiclescorrectlyforloading,unloading,washing,andmaintenanceactivities.
• ConductroutinevehiclesafetychecksandreportdefectsinaccordancewithCouncilfleetprocedures.
• Maintainsafetrafficflowwithinthesite,alwaysensuringsegregationofpedestriansandvehicles.

WeighbridgeOperations

• Operatethesiteweighbridgesystemforallinboundandoutboundvehicles.
• Accuratelyrecordvehicleweights,wastetypes,origins,anddestinationsinlinewithDutyofCareandregulatoryrequirements.
• Issueweighbridgeticketsandmaintainaccurateelectronicandmanualrecords.
• Consultwithdrivers,supervisors,andmanagerstoresolvediscrepanciesoroperationalissues.

WasteTransferStationOperations

• Directvehiclestodesignatedtippingandloadingareasinaccordancewithsiterules.
• Monitorwasteloadstoensurecorrectsegregationandidentifynon-compliantorprohibitedwaste.
• Assistwiththeloadingofbulkhaulagevehicles,containers,ortransfertrailersasrequired.
• Maintainhighstandardsofhousekeepingandcleanlinessacrossthesite.

Health,SafetyandEnvironmentalCompliance

• Workinaccordancewithallrelevanthealthandsafetylegislation,riskassessments,methodstatements,andsafesystemsofwork.
• ComplywithenvironmentalpermitconditionsandCouncilenvironmentalpolicies.
• Wearandpromotethecorrectuseofpersonalprotectiveequipment(PPE).
• Reportaccidents,incidents,nearmisses,hazards,orunsafepracticesinlinewithCouncilprocedures.
• Supportsiteemergencyarrangements,includingfireprevention,spillresponse,andevacuationprocedures.

GeneralDuties

• Assistwithroutinesiteinspectionsandbasicmaintenancetasksasrequired.
• Communicateeffectivelywithcolleagues,contractors,andmembersofthepublicwhereappropriate.
• Undertakeanyotherdutiescommensuratewiththegradeofthepost,asrequiredbytheservice.

Experience

• Experienceofworkinginawastemanagement,depot,orsimilaroperationalenvironment.
• Experienceofvehiclemanoeuvringorshuntingwithinacontrolledyardenvironment.

KnowledgeandSkills

• Knowledgeofhealthandsafetyrequirementsinhigh-riskoperationalenvironments.
• Abilitytofollowprocedures,riskassessments,andsafesystemsofwork.
• BasicITskills,includingdataentryanduseofweighbridgeorsimilarsystems.
• Goodcommunicationskillsandtheabilitytoworkaspartofateam.
• HGVdrivinglicence(CategoryCorC+E).
