Job description

Technical Sales & Business Development Manager – Underwater Acoustics

£45,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Port Solent, Portsmouth (Flexible hybrid Working)

Join one of the UK's leading ocean technology companies.

RS Aqua is a specialist supplier of advanced marine technology, supporting customers across ocean science, defence, offshore energy, marine autonomy and environmental monitoring.

Part of the General Oceans group, RS Aqua has built a reputation as one of the UK's leading ocean technology companies. We combine world-class products with deep technical expertise to deliver solutions across ocean science, defence, offshore energy, marine autonomy and environmental monitoring. As we continue to grow, we're investing in new technologies and expanding our capability in underwater sensing and data-driven solutions.

We're now looking for an ambitious commercial professional to help drive the next phase of growth within our underwater acoustics business.

The Role

You'll take ownership of a growing portfolio of underwater acoustics technologies, working with customers across defence, offshore energy, environmental monitoring and marine science.

From initial enquiries and business development through to technical proposals, tender responses and long-term account management, you'll play a central role in growing one of RS Aqua's most exciting technology areas.

You'll work closely with our suppliers, technical specialists and leadership team, helping customers specify the right solutions while identifying new commercial opportunities across the UK and beyond.

If you enjoy technology, solving problems and building relationships, you'll thrive here.

Your Responsibilities

You'll play a leading role in developing our underwater acoustics business by:

  • Identifying and developing new business opportunities
  • Managing and growing relationships with existing customers
  • Preparing quotations, technical proposals and tender responses
  • Working with customers to understand their operational and technical requirements
  • Specifying appropriate products and integrated technical solutions
  • Working closely with suppliers and our in-house technical team
  • Representing RS Aqua at customer meetings, exhibitions, demonstrations and industry events
  • Maintaining a healthy sales pipeline and accurate CRM records
  • Identifying new markets, emerging technologies and commercial opportunities

Our Technology

You'll work across a wide range of market-leading technologies, including:

·        Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) and underwater noise measurement

·        Smart underwater sensing systems, edge processing, IoT communications and cloud-based intelligence

·        Hydrophones, acoustic recorders and sonar systems

·        Oceanographic and environmental monitoring instrumentation

·        Autonomous marine platforms, including AUVs, USVs and ROVs, and integrated sensor payloads

·        Defence and maritime surveillance technologies

·        AI-enabled sensing, analytics and decision-support solutions

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys both technology and building long-term customer relationships.

You'll ideally have:

  • Minimally three years' experience in a technical sales, business development or commercial role
  • Experience within underwater acoustics, sonar or closely related marine technologies (strongly preferred)
  • A degree, HND or equivalent experience in engineering, ocean science, acoustics, physics, electronics or another relevant technical discipline
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and a proactive approach to developing opportunities
  • The ability to understand technical systems and communicate their value to customers
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail

We'd prefer that you have experience working with customers in defence, offshore energy, marine science or environmental monitoring, but this isn't essential if you've built a successful commercial career in another technically demanding industry.

Why Join RS Aqua?

You'll become part of a close-knit, experienced and highly respected team working at the forefront of marine technology. In return, we offer:

  • £45,000 salary
  • Bonus scheme
  • 25 days annual leave plus public holidays
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • Company pension
  • Ongoing technical and professional development
  • UK and occasional international travel
  • The opportunity to work with world-leading technologies and genuinely interesting customers

Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the future of one of the UK's most respected ocean technology businesses.

Right to Work

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. RS Aqua is unable to sponsor visas for this role.

As many of our customers operate within the defence sector, all successful applicants will be minimally required to complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks.
