Electrical (MEP) Technical Manager

About the Client & Role

My client is a highly respected Tier 1 Main Contractor with a formidable track record in delivering complex, high-value projects. Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are seeking a highly competent Electrical Technical Manager to join their technical and design division.

This is a senior technical position serving as the definitive authority on electrical building services. You will be instrumental in bridging the gap between design theory and construction reality, ensuring all electrical systems are robustly designed, compliant, and optimized for delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the electrical design review process, rigorously interrogating design proposals for feasibility, compliance, and efficiency.
• Independently check, verify, and validate electrical calculations (e.g., cable sizing, load distribution assessments, short circuit calculations, and lighting design) submitted by external parties.
• Manage, guide, and challenge external MEP design consultants to ensure outputs meet the highest technical standards and project timelines.
• Drive the design delivery process, ensuring seamless integration of electrical systems with wider architectural and structural disciplines.
• Provide technical leadership and troubleshooting expertise to the project management and site delivery teams.
• Identify and implement value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising quality or safety.

Required Experience & Expertise

• A strong, demonstrable technical background in Electrical Engineering, preferably supported by a relevant degree or equivalent extensive industry experience.
• Proven track record working in a Technical Management or Design Delivery Management capacity within the M&E / Building Services sector.
• Exceptional analytical skills with the hands-on ability to review designs and critically assess technical calculations.
• Extensive experience in managing and coordinating external design consultants on large-scale projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge of current UK building regulations, codes of practice (including BS 7671 wiring regulations), and industry standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of liaising effectively between design teams and construction personnel.

Remuneration

• Salary: £90,000 – £110,000 per annum
• Benefits: Car Allowance, Comprehensive Pension, 26 Days Annual Leave (rising to 30 days), Share Save Scheme
