PURPOSE OF ROLE


We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Chartered Building Surveyor who will lead and manage a range of building surveying services across multiple projects. You will provide professional advice on property and construction matters, including design, maintenance, refurbishment, and compliance.


The Associate Building Surveyor will play a key role in delivering professional building surveying services across a diverse property portfolio. You will lead projects, manage client relationships, provide technical expertise, and support the development of junior surveyors while contributing to business growth and service excellence.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Senior Building Surveyor


  • Undertake a range of building surveying services including condition surveys, pre-acquisition surveys, maintenance surveys, defect diagnosis, dilapidations, and reinstatement cost assessments.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, specifications, schedules of work, and technical advice for refurbishment, renovation, repair, and maintenance projects.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, procurement, contract administration, contractor management, and acting as Employer's Agent where required.
  • Provide expert advice on building defects, property maintenance, refurbishment, lease obligations, property acquisitions, and neighbourly matters.
  • Act as Party Wall Surveyor and provide advice in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Act as CDM Principal Designer/CDM Advisor, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and best practice.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and advise on Schedules of Dilapidations and related settlements.
  • Carry out measured surveys and produce or oversee CAD drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, environmental legislation, and industry standards.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, local authorities, and statutory bodies to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing a high standard of professional service and identifying opportunities for additional work.
  • Mentor, support, and develop junior surveyors and graduates, providing technical guidance and sharing best practice.
  • Support business development activities, fee proposals, and the continued growth of the surveying service.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest professional standards.


Associate Building Surveyor


  • Deliver a wide range of building surveying services, including condition surveys, pre-acquisition surveys, technical due diligence, planned maintenance programmes, defect diagnosis, dilapidations, and reinstatement cost assessments.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, specifications, schedules of work, contract documentation, and technical advice relating to refurbishment, renovation, repair, maintenance, and improvement projects.
  • Lead and manage projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, procurement, contract administration, project management, contractor coordination, and acting as Employer's Agent where required.
  • Provide expert advice on building defects, property maintenance, refurbishment strategies, lease obligations, property acquisitions, and neighbourly matters.
  • Act as Party Wall Surveyor and provide advice in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Act as CDM Principal Designer/CDM Advisor, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, Building Regulations, environmental requirements, and RICS professional standards.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and advise on Schedules of Dilapidations and associated settlements.
  • Undertake measured surveys and produce or oversee the preparation of CAD drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring a consistently high standard of professional service.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, local authorities, statutory bodies, and other stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Mentor, support, and develop graduate, assistant, and junior surveyors, providing technical guidance, supervision, and sharing best practice.
  • Support business development activities through client engagement, fee proposals, tender submissions, and identifying opportunities for new and repeat business.
  • Contribute to team performance, resource planning, and the continuous improvement of service delivery.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest professional and technical standards.

  • QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS


    • Be a Chartered Building Surveyor with 3+ years PQE for the Senior Surveyor role and 5+ years PQE for the Associate role.
    • Fluent with all Microsoft packages and relevant to the role IT packages.
    • A highly motivated commercial approach, with ability to work as part of a team and be a self-starter working on your own initiative.
    • Have strong research, analytical skills, and reporting skills.
    • Have resilience to work under pressure; have excellent prioritisation, time management, negotiation and organisation skills and attention to detail.
    • Possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills and, deliver information clearly and succinctly.
    • Be proactive and receptive to change, hold a positive ‘can do’ attitude and uphold the highest level of professionalism at all times.
    • Hold a valid UK driving licence.


    PRIMARY LOCATION


    The role will be based within the Bristol office. However, due to the nature of our business you may be required to work in other offices from time to time.
