Job description

Maintenance Engineer
Coventry | £33,300 per Annum | Overtime: Paid at 1.3x (£20.80 per hour)

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a mid-level Hands-On Maintenance Engineer to join a fast-paced industrial coatings business operating from a high-volume production facility in Coventry. The site delivers liquid paint and powder coating services to the automotive, industrial and agricultural sectors, where uptime, speed of response and equipment reliability are critical to meeting strict production schedules and customer deadlines. This is a fully floor-based, reactive and preventative maintenance role suited to a mechanically biased engineer with strong practical capability and a willingness to work in a demanding production environment. The role requires rapid physical intervention to diagnose faults, repair equipment and restore production as quickly and safely as possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out hands-on maintenance and repair of production machinery, plant equipment and associated systems within a live manufacturing environment.
  • Rebuild and service fluid handling equipment including pumps, reciprocating spray guns, electrostatic bells and injectors.
  • Maintain and overhaul industrial curing ovens, including burners, blowers, conveyor tracks and associated mechanical components.
  • Clean, replace and maintain booth filtration systems, including dry filters, water-wash sludge systems and air handling units.
  • Respond to breakdowns on the production floor, providing rapid fault diagnosis and repair to minimise downtime and protect output targets.
  • Carry out basic electrical fault finding including tracing circuits, testing PLC inputs/outputs and resolving wiring and control issues at machine level.
  • Undertake pneumatic system fault finding and repair, including air lines, actuators and control valves.
  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance activities including lubrication routines, inspections and mechanical servicing across daily, weekly and monthly schedules.
  • Support emergency maintenance interventions during breakdowns and production-critical failures.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, multimeters and fluid handling equipment confidently and safely.
  • Work within confined or restricted spaces including spray booths and elevated work areas where required.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping and compliance with site procedures and PPE requirements.

Candidate Requirements

  • Pumps, motors, bearings and general mechanical maintenance.
  • Industrial burners, ovens and thermal systems.
  • Basic electrical fault finding, including wiring and control diagnostics.
  • Pneumatic systems and compressed air equipment.
  • MIG welding and fabrication repair work.
  • Fast-paced breakdown response and preventative maintenance routines.
