The QEH Dermatology department is a busy but friendly and supportive environment. The team are dedicated to providing the highest standards of patient care. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of 5 substantive Consultants within the Dermatology service, as well as 3 Fellows, General Practitioners with Extended Roles (GPWERs), Clinical Nurse Specialists as well as a developed admin team.
Main duties of the job
- Provide high quality Dermatology care in out‑patient clinics for adult and paediatric dermatology patients and perform high quality surgery within the appropriate level of competence.
- Participate in the Skin Cancer MDT.
- Attend required CPDevents regularly and the annual Cancer Peer Review meeting.
- Perform regular ward rounds with residents. There are no out‑of‑hours on‑call commitment but the Dermatology team are closely involved in the care of in‑patients between 9‑5pm.
- Provide tele dermatology review for the relevant referrals.
- Provide high quality support and teaching to GP colleagues in hospital and community.
- Provide leadership to the department, encouraging development of services with colleagues both within and outside the trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- The post holder must be medically qualified (MRCP UK level or equivalent), and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice.
- To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
- To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
- To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
- To attend relevant CPD meetings and keep an appropriate diary demonstrating the required number of annual credits have been achieved.
Person specification
Qualifications
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- UK‑trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
- Non‑UK trained applicants must show evidence of equivalence to UK CCT and be on the GMC Specialist Register or applying via CESR
- Strong commitment to delivering change and high performance through effective collaboration with management and clinical teams
- Ability to analyse complex problems and to develop practical and workable solutions to address them.
- Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working.
- Experience in conducting and supporting audits, improvement and service transformation projects
- Knowledge of national targets linked to the NHS performance
- Experience using clinical data, benchmarking, and audit findings to drive improvements and reduce unwarranted variation.
Clinical Audit
- Active audit interest demonstrated by at least one completed clinical audit in the last 12 months.
- Understanding of NHS systems and audit processes
- Evidence of service improvement projects and audits
- Publication of audit results.
- Evidence of embedding governance processes to monitor outcomes, safety, and service performance.
Teaching Experience
- Experience and interest in undergraduate teaching
- Skill and ability in formal and informal teaching for both under/postgraduate students and nursing/midwifery staff
- Educational supervision accreditation
- An understanding of current issues in medical education and training
- Previous experience in trainee Supervision
- Higher teaching qualification
- Presentations at National or International meetings
- Publications in peer reviewed journals
Management and Administrative Experience
- Understands the management structure of the NHS
- Ability to use Microsoft office packages, e.g. MS Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint.
- Ability to use patient information systems
clinical Experience
- Comprehensive Training and experience in Dermatology
- Broad experience of working within the NHS
