Currently we have an excellent opportunity for an experienced forensic psychiatrist to lead secure mental health services, providing strategic clinical leadership and recovery-focused care for individuals within the criminal justice system.

Salary: Up to £170,000. Position: Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist. Hours: Full Time. Setting: Medium and Low Secure Forensic Services. Location: South Wales, NP13.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act
  • Lead psychiatric assessments, formulations and treatment planning
  • Provide specialist reports for tribunals, courts and Ministry of Justice
  • Offer expert advice to probation, prisons and MAPPA
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated forensic care
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement
  • Support service development and supervise junior medical staff

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent with full GMC registration
  • CCT or CESR in Psychiatry and MRCPsych
  • Approved Clinician status under Section 12 MHA
  • Minimum five years’ postgraduate psychiatric experience, with 2 in forensic/secure
  • Significant experience within forensic mental health settings
