Country Medical Director – UK & Ireland

Reports to: Senior Cluster Medical Director, UDG & SEB
Role Summary
Lead the UK & Ireland Medical Affairs function, driving medical excellence to improve patient outcomes and deliver high‑value scientific engagement. This role is accountable for developing and executing impactful Medical Plans, supporting the launch and lifecycle management of rezafungin in invasive fungal disease, and ensuring the generation and communication of world‑class medical evidence aligned with global strategy.
Medical Leadership
- Lead and develop the UK & Ireland Medical Affairs team, ensuring excellence in Anti‑Infectives Medical Plans that enhance patient outcomes
- Act as a key member of the UK Leadership Team, providing strategic medical input and strong business partnership
- Coach and develop talent, building core capabilities and a high‑performing medical organization
- Ensure robust medical governance, with full compliance to local regulations and codes of practice
- Align with Global Medical Anti‑Infectives and Established Brands teams on strategy, insight generation, and data communication
- Manage the Medical Affairs budget effectively across UK & Ireland
- Partner with Global Medical Operations to embed systems, processes, and best practices locally
- Foster a Specialty Care culture focused on patient‑centricity, deep scientific expertise, and strong external collaboration
- Contribute to Cluster Medical Affairs strategy and ongoing evolution of Medical as a strategic function
External Engagement
- Build and maintain scientific partnerships with key external experts, institutions, and medical societies
- Lead patient engagement initiatives, including collaboration with patient advocacy groups
- Act as a medical spokesperson in alignment with communications strategy
- Engage with external stakeholders, including competitor organizations where required, to resolve scientific or compliance matters
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Provide expert medical guidance on Anti‑Infectives strategies, promotional/non‑promotional activities, and scientific content
- Partner closely with Marketing to ensure aligned and effective execution of initiatives
- Collaborate with Regulatory, Drug Safety, R&D, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure seamless Scientific Affairs operations
- Oversee review and approval of materials in compliance with UK and Irish Codes of Practice
- Ensure all country activities meet regulatory and company standards
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Medical Doctor or Pharmacist (MD strongly preferred); additional qualifications such as higher medical degree or Pharmaceutical Medicine are desirable
- Certification: MD, MPharm, or equivalent GMC revalidation (for MDs)
- Experience: 7+ years in Medical Affairs; 2+ years clinical practice experience; experience in Anti‑Infectives (clinical or industry); prior experience as a Country Medical Director (desirable); proven success in Specialty Care and/or Rare Disease launches; strong track record of building external scientific partnerships
- Skills: Fluency in English (written and spoken); ABPI Medical Signatory expertise (mandatory); strong strategic thinking and leadership capability; experience working across global or multi‑market environments (desirable); knowledge of Clinical Development/Operations (desirable)
