Job description
Background
This is a practice that has invested in making general practice feel manageable again. A structured working day with a 5.30pm finish, a reasonable appointment load with built‑up catch‑up time, a GP assistant model that genuinely reduces the non‑clinical burden, and an AI triage system launching imminently to ease duty doctor demand. The result is a team where GPs arrive and stay: tenures of between five and thirteen years are the norm, not the exception.
Location
The Practice is based in North‑West Shropshire, close to the Welsh border. Shrewsbury is around 20 minutes by road, Wrexham approximately 20 minutes to the north, and Chester around 45 minutes. The area offers affordable living and easy access to open countryside.
The Practice
- GP Training Practice, currently hosting GP registrars
- Dispensing practice to circa 30% of their patient population
- AI‑assisted triage model launching imminently
- GP assistant job share in place, taking non‑clinical tasks away from GPs
- Daily clinical huddle at noon involving the whole clinical team
- Strong, stable partnership team
- Small practice with a pooled list, predominantly older rural patients
- Single‑site practice with on‑site parking, uses EMIS Web
- CQC rated Good
Your Role
- Salaried GP: 6 to 8 sessions per week. Thursdays and Fridays are essential; the third day for a 6‑session GP is flexible.
- Structured working day: morning clinic 8.30‑12.00 (14 appointments with two built‑in 15‑minute catch‑up slots); afternoon clinic 2.15‑5.30 (11 appointments with the same catch‑up provision).
- Extended hours participation: approximately one evening session in six weeks, paid at £90 per hour. Saturday morning sessions are voluntary.
- Duty doctor responsibilities are shared across the team, with AI triage reducing online requests requiring personal GP review from July 2025.
- Partnership is a genuine possibility for the right candidate.
- Newly qualified GPs are welcome to apply.
- Must be qualified as a General Practitioner and registered with the GMC and UK Performers List.
Salary and Benefits
- Sessional rate of circa £11,500 per session.
- Extended hours paid at £90 per hour.

- Access to group indemnity scheme.
- Structured induction with a dedicated mentor for the first six months.
