Trust Doctor (SHO) in Acute Medicine

Working within a team of specialist Consultants, resident doctors in training and ACPs, the post holder will be expected to initiate and provide sound clinical/medical practices to patients admitted to the acute medical SDEC whilst supporting the acute medical admissions unit at times of increased activity.
The post holder will be predominately based in Winchester but should also be prepared to work at any HHFT site if required.
Main duties of the job
- Undertake patient reviews on medical SDEC
- Investigate and initiate medical management
- Patient assessment
- Drug prescription
- Discharge administration
- Promptly update patient systems
- Attend clinic
- Attend Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
- Facilitate daily board round with MDT where required
- Triage to medical teams/acute physicians as appropriate
- Trouble shoot patients in the SDEC and on the ward
- Participate in ward rounds where appropriate

BNHH and RHCH are 23 miles apart, situated in the middle of the M3 corridor, with excellent transport links to London and the south coast.
Person Specification
Professional Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice
- Basic Life Support
- Management of Acute Medical Admission
- Evidence of continuing professional updating
- Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st or 2nd Degree
- Advanced Life Support
- MRCP
Clinical Experience & Knowledge
- Evidence of safe, sound clinical practices
- Experience of teaching medical students
- Appropriate speciality experience
- Experience of working within NHS
Skills & Ability
- Ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively and work under pressure
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Proven ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and display leadership
- Highly motivated approach
