Macmillan Gynae Oncology Navigator

The Gynae Oncology Cancer Navigator is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, caring for the physical, social and psychological needs of patients and carers diagnosed with Gynae cancer throughout their treatment pathway and after care support. The post holder works under the guidance and supervision of a registered practitioner and is responsible for ensuring a patient‑centred experience at each stage of the journey.

Main duties of the job

  • Identify potential delays in the patient pathway and work with senior staff to mitigate their impact, keeping the patient and carer experience central.
  • Maintain spreadsheets to track patients through their pathway.
  • Support the Gynae Oncology CNS by responding to both non‑complex and complex workloads and referring appropriately.
  • Triage telephone calls and provide basic advice and support.
  • Liaise and refer to other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Arrange and triage electronic Holistic Needs Assessments (eHNA) during the cancer patient pathway, assisting patients to complete eHNA where appropriate and ensuring timely sign‑posting to services.
  • Manage patient information and coordinate pathways with medical secretaries, MDT coordinators, clinical nurse specialists and other departments.
  • Work with the CNS to develop and embed the Living with and Beyond Cancer agenda within the Gynae Oncology service.
  • Ensure timely booking of outpatient appointments.

Job responsibilities

  • Carry out duties consistent with the role’s responsibilities.
  • Comply with Trust and departmental policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Attend mandatory training as required.
  • Participate in team meetings and review/develop the Gynae Oncology service.
  • Notify line manager of any issues that may affect safe duty performance.
  • Ensure patient privacy and dignity and recognise departmental duties for a safe environment.
  • Report incidents in line with Trust procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Trust policy.
