Rushcliffe PCN islooking to recruit a newly qualified & forward-thinking GP to join ourGeneral Practice team in central Rushcliffe.

You will be required towork 3 sessions within one of our south practices Orchard Surgery has twosites in Kegworth and Gotham. We are a very supportive PCN & willsupport you to work by providing a Clinical Director as a mentor. This is agreat opportunity to get to know our practices and will provide the successfulcandidate with experience working within general practice.

Main duties of the job

Rushcliffe PCN is a large rural PCN providing services to 140,000 patients. Our 11 eleven practices form 3 smaller localities: North, South & Central.

All our practices are rated good or outstanding with CQC & the majority are training practices.

The role is to work within Orchard Surgery as part of the practice team

Job responsibilities

Reporting to Nominated Partner/PCN lead

Accountable to PCN Clinical Director

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The post-holder will manage a clinical caseload and dealwith a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring thehighest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.Responsibilities will reflect requirements of the NHS GP Contracts, and as suchmay be subject to change as services adapt.

Clinical Responsibilities

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, thepost-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of dutiesincluding face to face, telephone and online consultations and queries,visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions anddealing with queries paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation topresenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health careworkers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients withundifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signsof illness

In consultation with patients and in line with currentpractice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health

Providing counselling and health education

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseloadand referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes toagreed standards

Clinical Responsibilities

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeatprescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribingformulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake allthe normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working withinprimary care.

Completion of medical reports (including NHS and privateservices as required)

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practicepolicies/guidelines, e.g.prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, healthand safety

A commitment to life‑long learning and audit to ensureevidence-based best practice

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standardsetting within the organisation

Contributing to the development of computer-based patientrecords

Contributing to the summarising of patient records andread-coding patient data

Attending training and events organised by the practice orother agencies, where appropriate.

Health & Safety

The post-holder will implement and lead on a full range ofpromotion and management their own and others health and safety and infectioncontrol as defined in the practice health & safety policy, the practicehealth & safety manual, and the practice infection control policy andpublished procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

Using personal security systems within the workplaceaccording to practice guidelines

Awareness of national standards of infection control andcleanliness and regulatory /contractual / professional requirements, and goodpractice guidelines

Providing advice on the correct and safe management of thespecimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct andclean containers, storage and transport arrangements

Correct personal use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)and ensuring correct use of PPE by others, advising on appropriatecircumstances for use by clinicians, staff and patients.

Management of the full range of infection control proceduresin both routine and extraordinary circumstances (e.g. Pandemic or individualinfectious circumstances)Health & Safety Cont:

Hand hygiene standards for self and others

Managing directly all incidents of accidental exposure

Management and advice relating to infection control andclinically based patient care protocols, and implementation of those protocolsacross the practice

Active observation of current working practices across thepractice in relation to infection control, cleanliness and related activities,ensuring that procedures are followed and weaknesses / training needs areidentified, escalating issues as appropriate to the responsible person

Identifying the risks involved in work activities andundertaking such activities in away that manages those risks across clinicaland patient process

Making effective use of training to update knowledge andskills, and initiate and manage the training of others across the full range ofinfection control and patient processes

Monitoring practice facilities and equipment in relation toinfection control, ensuring that proper use is made of hand cleansingfacilities, wipes etc, and that these are sufficient to ensure a good clinicalworking environment. Lack of facilities to be escalated as appropriate to theresponsible manager

Safe management of sharps use, storage and disposal

Maintenance of own clean working environment

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintainingwork areas in a tidy, clean and sterile, and safe way, free from hazards.Initiation of remedial / corrective action where needed or escalation toresponsible management

Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of healthand safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised

Health & Safety Cont

Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generallyclean, sterile, identifying issues and hazards / risks in relation to otherwork areas within the business, and assuming responsibility in the maintenanceof general standards of cleanliness across the business in consultation (whereappropriate) with responsible managers

Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimumtwice annually)

Correct waste and instrument management including handling,segregation, and container use

Maintenance of sterile environments

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and across organisational boundaries in a UK General Practice
  • Understanding of NHS systems
