Principal Planning Consultant – Birmingham

City Centre Projects, Appeals & Strategic Planning

An outstanding opportunity has arisen with a leading consultancy looking to strengthen its Birmingham team with a Principal Planning Consultant.

This firm is known for delivering challenging city centre schemes — the type that require not just planning knowledge, but commercial awareness, political sensitivity and the ability to work calmly through complexity.

The Role:

  • Managing major planning applications from inception to determination
  • Drafting robust Planning Statements and evidence-based submissions
  • Supporting and leading appeal strategies, including public inquiries
  • Promoting regeneration sites through Local Plan reviews
  • Coordinating multi-disciplinary project teams (design, transport, EIA etc.)
  • Mentoring junior colleagues and supporting workload planning

About You:

  • MRTPI qualified or extremely close to completion
  • Strong background in consultancy, local authority or developer-side
  • Experience of appeals and committee presentations
  • Strong written skills and commercial judgement
  • A calm, confident project manager who can handle complex stakeholder environments

This role offers genuine autonomy and an opportunity to work on flagship projects.
