We are looking to appoint a suitably experienced Clinical Fellow to work in the Oncology Department at Cheltenham General Hospital. The post involves outpatient work, reviewing patients during and after treatment, and undertaking chemotherapy assessment and prescribing with appropriate training.
Main duties of the job
The post will involve ward work covering the oncology and haematology inpatient unit, comprising 2 dedicated oncology and haematology wards (40 beds) and the Acute Haematology and Oncology Unit. There may be opportunities to be further involved in the management of inpatients and acute referrals.
Working for our organisation
The principal place of work is Cheltenham General Hospital. Other work locations, including off‑site working, may be agreed where appropriate, for supporting professional activities and some direct clinical care such as audit. The post holder will generally be expected to undertake Programmed Activities at the principal place of work or other locations agreed in the Job Plan. Work may be required at any site within the Trust.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Experience gained in the management of common malignancies, including chemotherapy assessment, with opportunities to gain experience in radiotherapy.
- Support will be given to pursue an interest in medical education or a quality improvement project.
- Work with a highly supportive team that includes advanced nurse practitioners, oncology specialty doctors and oncology SpRs, providing clinical experience and supervision similar to that of junior SpRs.
- Active clinical research programme, with opportunities to be involved with trial recruitment.

Application Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Completion of F1/F2.
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment, in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice.
- Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice).
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
- MRCP.
- Postgraduate teaching experience.
- Evidence of active participation in audit.
- Demonstrated experience working in a team.
- Applicant’s knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely.
