Job description
Practice Overview
This is a small practice with a big support structure behind it. Part of a large-scale primary care organisation with its own centralised triage hub, dedicated IT infrastructure, and national career development pathways, the practice punches well above its weight in terms of what it can offer a GP. The workload is genuinely manageable, the team is tight-knit and long-standing, and the patients are engaged and appreciative. A GP who joined for six months previously, ended up staying six years.
Location
The practice is based in the Dudley area of the West Midlands, in the heart of the Black Country. Birmingham city centre is approximately 20 minutes away, Wolverhampton around 15 minutes, and West Bromwich approximately 10 minutes.
Practice Details
- Small patient list allowing continuity of care.
- Centralised triage hub that manages all patient contact requests on behalf of GPs on site.
- Proprietary triage technology linked to a national network, giving clinical decision‑support infrastructure.
- Stable support team: HCA with over 20 years at the practice, Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurse, Pharmacist, Social Prescriber, two Care Coordinators, and Physiotherapy input.
- GP trainer on site and ambitions to become a training practice.
- Strong career development and clinical support available at organisational level, including access to clinical advice, expert opinions, and national networks.
- SystmOne clinical system.
Your Role
The practice needs a GP who can work independently on site. Newer GPs are considered but confidence is essential.
Appointment numbers are currently under review in line with the new access contract. Home visits are very rare – typically 2 in a month, sometimes none for several weeks.
No extended hours, no weekend working, and no traditional Duty Doctor requirement – two thirds of the workload is routine, with one third on-the-day.
Diverse patient demographics across Pakistani, Nigerian, and Kurdish communities – Urdu or Arabic language skills would be an advantage, though not essential.
Salary & Benefits
£11,000 – £12,000 per session, depending on experience.
- NHS Pension
- 6 weeks' annual leave pro rata
- 1 week study leave pro rata
- Dedicated mentor and regular appraisals
- Professional development support and access to clinical advice networks at organisational level
