Job overview

The post is a 12‑month whole‑time equivalent position at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and will be based at Wythenshawe Hospital.

The post‑holder will work as a registrar (ST) level in the Department of Gastroenterology, rotating equitably with other team members. The role is part of a thriving department that works closely with GI radiology, general surgery, and other specialties to provide comprehensive secondary and tertiary GI services for the South Manchester population and beyond.

Candidates that are non‑GMC registered at the point of application will be considered under the Trust’s International Fellowship Scheme (a £500 administration charge applies). The scheme information is available on the Trust’s website.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Appointment for Services in gastro/General Internal Medicine (GIM). The appointee will join a team of eight gastroenterologists in a dynamic department providing gastroenterology and endoscopy services to the population of South Manchester. The focus of the role is within endoscopy, working alongside Consultants who provide tertiary endoscopy services. The appointee will have the opportunity to attend endoscopy, ward rounds, and research activities, and will be on the GIM on‑call rota. The postholder will also acquire practical acute medical skills.

Applications must be supported by evidence of admission to the GMC registration and the commitment to attain MRCP.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • GMC registration
  • Active registration and licence to practice with the GMC at the time of appointment (via Manchester International Fellowship Scheme)

Knowledge

  • Experience of managing gastroenterology patients

Training

  • Experience in undertaking audit

Skills

  • Good interpersonal skills

Attributes

  • Appreciation and understanding of the role of management

Other

  • Experience in clinical leadership
