Design Manager – Water Infrastructure (Contract)

Location: Epsom, London, Peterborough or Cambridge

Working Pattern: Hybrid – Minimum 3 days per week in the office or on client site

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a leading engineering consultancy delivering major water infrastructure projects across the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead multidisciplinary design teams, overseeing projects from feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and construction support. You'll play a key role in driving technical excellence, managing project delivery and working alongside industry-leading engineering professionals on nationally significant infrastructure programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering design teams across complex water infrastructure projects.
• Manage the delivery of design packages, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
• Oversee the production and review of technical reports, engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
• Work closely with Project Managers to manage project programmes, budgets and resources.
• Provide technical leadership throughout feasibility, concept, detailed design and construction support.
• Coordinate Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, ICA, Structural and Geotechnical engineering disciplines.
• Lead design reviews, risk assessments, quality assurance and technical governance activities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors and key stakeholders.
• Mentor and support the development of junior engineers.
• Contribute to bids, tenders and business development activities where required.
• Ensure compliance with UK legislation, industry standards, CDM Regulations and client specifications.

About You

You'll be an experienced Design Manager with a proven background delivering multidisciplinary engineering projects within the water sector.

Essential:

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary design teams.
• Strong background delivering water infrastructure projects through the full project lifecycle.
• Experience managing programmes, budgets, resources and project risks.
• Good knowledge of CDM Regulations, Eurocodes, NEC contracts and UK Water Industry standards.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills.

Desirable:

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
• Consultancy experience.
• Experience leading large-scale infrastructure programmes.
• Previous involvement in bids, tenders and business development.
