Pure Renewables Commercial provides Design, Supply, Installation and Commissioning services to the Renewables Energy Sector, helping clients decarbonise in line with local, national and global targets.
Overview of role and level of responsibility
As Design Manager you will require expertise in project/design management, and a passion for renewable energy to support our Engineering and Operations teams. You will have experience in large commercial energy projects. Familiarity with electrical systems and installations is also beneficial, as you’ll work across a range of projects within renewable technologies.
Specific tasks and deliverables
- Create efficient and effective commercial energy designs, tailored to specific site requirements and client needs, with a focus on renewables and energy optimisation.
- Conduct detailed pre-installation surveys, including heat loss calculations and site assessments, to inform system design and ensure optimal performance.
- Oversee and perform commissioning of installed systems to ensure they operate effectively, meet design specifications, and achieve high efficiency.
- Leverage electrical experience to support the integration of heat pumps, battery storage, and EV and solar.
- Lead the full lifecycle of renewable projects, from feasibility studies and design through to installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Liaise with clients, internal project managers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure clear communication and successful project delivery.
- Stay informed about advancements in heat pump technology, electrical systems, and renewable energy solutions, including participation in technical training and certifications.
- Ensures that the integrity of the QMS is maintained when changes are planned and implemented.
- Awareness of OH&S, environmental reporting information and its impact upon the project.
Key skills and experiences
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing, managing, commissioning, and servicing renewable energy systems.
- Developing designs for new and existing projects based in the district/process heat sector for our commercial/industrial clients.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and experience with integrating renewable technologies such as solar PV, battery storage, and EV chargers is a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with industry standards, UK building regulations, and health and safety requirements for renewable installations.
- Experience conducting pre-installation surveys.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Inventor, Navisworks) and project management tools.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of piping systems.
- Develop and deliver design processes and functions to meet ISO standards.
- Compiling technical documents, specifications, and sub-tender packages to assist in the delivery of projects.
- Attending client meetings, site visits and leading on commissioning of systems to meet contractual requirements.
- Identification of cost saving and efficiency gains throughout all areas of the operation

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000
25 days holiday plus statutory
