Come and work with Cody gigs, travel and serious skills required
Cody is a young man with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) who lives life at full volume. He loves live music, going to the pub, and getting out and about and he needs a skilled 2:1 team around him to make all of that happen safely. One shift you might be at a concert with him; the next you're in the hydrotherapy pool or working through his physio programme. It's varied, it's rewarding, and it's proper skilled work.
Please read before applying:this is NOT an SEN, autism or befriending role, and it is absolutely not sitting around keeping someone company. Cody's support involves clinical and medical intervention, including emergency (midazolam) rescue medication, oxygen therapy and respiratory care. Previous experience of PMLD or complex care is essential applications without it will not be considered.
What you'll actually do
- Personal care, bowel care, moving and handling, and safe mealtime support
- Dietary meal planning preparing meals to Cody's dietary and safe-swallowing requirements
- Administering medication, including trained emergency midazolam rescue; seizure monitoring and accurate record-keeping
- Oxygen therapy and respiratory care, including monitoring and responding to changes in Cody's breathing
- Hydrotherapy sessions with Cody you must be confident in the water
- Assisting his physiotherapists and carrying out therapy programmes, including rebound therapy
- Planning his week, keeping his appointments, and driving his wheelchair-accessible vehicle (full UK licence essential)
- Accompanying Cody to concerts, the pub, activities and on travels passport handy
- Working alongside his wider team physios, nurses, and his family
- Advocating for Cody and challenging the status quo when his needs aren't being met we want people with backbone
- Researching PMLD-appropriate groups and opportunities for him (not SEN/autism provision)
- Some waking nights, with household duties ironing his clothes, cleaning and maintaining his equipment
Who you are
Skilled, conscientious and calm under pressure. You use your initiative, you're self-reliant, and you notice things before they become problems. You take the clinical side seriously and still know how to have a laugh with Cody at a gig.
Who you aren't
Someone hoping to scroll their phone while Cody "sits around". That job doesn't exist here.
Shifts
From 7am on a mixture of static and variable patterns, including evenings, weekends and some waking nights. Full-time hours available; rotas agreed in advance no last-minute chaos.
Essential
- Genuine, demonstrable experience supporting people with PMLD or complex health needs
- SVQ 3 in Social Services and Healthcare (SCQF Level 7) or equivalent regulated qualification (e.g. NVQ 3 / Level 3 Diploma from an Ofqual-regulated awarding body). Unaccredited online certificates and CPD-only courses will not be accepted. Certificates will be verified with the awarding body.
- Full UK driving licence
- Confident in the water (hydrotherapy)
- Physically fit to meet the moving and handling demands of the role
- Calm under pressure, responsive, self-reliant, and willing to speak up for Cody
Training provided genuinely build your skillset
Fully funded: midazolam rescue, first aid, oxygen therapy and respiratory care, moving and handling, bowel care, rebound therapy, and intensive interaction plus paid induction and shadow shifts. These are portable, specialist complex-care skills that will serve your whole career.
