About the role

Are you an undergraduate looking to spend your placement (year-out/sandwich) year gaining real IT industry experience? We're looking for a motivated student to join our friendly Central Services team in the Manchester Studio for a 12-month placement. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on, real-world experience across a range of technologies while working on our in-house IT Service Management platform, all within a supportive, collaborative team led by approachable, experienced leaders who are genuinely invested in helping you grow your skills and confidence from day one.

No previous IT support experience is necessary - we're more interested in your enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to learn than a long CV. Whatever your course or background, if you're ready to gain valuable experience as part of your degree, we'd love to hear from you.

We know first-hand how valuable this experience can be - our current placement student is just completing their year with us and will be returning to university having gained a huge amount, both in skills and confidence.

Our Central Services team brings together people from a range of backgrounds and career paths, so wherever you're starting from, you'll have plenty of people to learn from and be mentored by as you find your own path in IT.

What you will be doing

• Acting as a primary point of contact for global BDP IT Support
• Offering guidance from our knowledge base and attempting first-time fixes with staff
• Contributing to our knowledge base as new solutions are discovered
• Consistently hitting initial response targets for queries raised via our support channels
• Escalating tickets in a timely manner, helping ensure SLA targets remain achievable
• Accurately recording information in our ticketing platform, so the wider team can handle escalations efficiently
• Keeping staff updated on the progress of their tickets

About you

We welcome applications from undergraduates on any degree course, whether you're studying computer science or a related IT discipline, or simply have a strong interest in technology and a passion for helping people. You'll bring:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Excellent time management
• A natural, effective problem-solving mindset
• An interest in, or working knowledge of, Microsoft operating systems
• An interest in, or working knowledge of, Microsoft 365

Desirable (but not essential):
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP)
• Experience with the Freshservice ITSM platform
