Consultant Psychiatrist Liaison

Job Summary

Consultant Psychiatrist for the Mental Health Liaison Team at Fairfield General Hospital (Irwell Unit, Bury). Full time, 10 sessions per week on a rota, with a low out‑of‑hours on‑call frequency. Salary £113,565 – £150,569 per annum.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical work: assessment and intervention with patients in the acute trust.
• Liaison work with a multidisciplinary mental health team, promoting skill development and pathway development.
• Educational roles, managerial duties, and service evaluation.
• Support service development to meet Core 24 standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• MBChB or MBBS, fully registered with GMC and on the GMC specialist register.
• Section 12 and AC approval or ability to achieve within 3 months.
• MRCPsych or equivalent; a CCT in adult or dual in adult and old‑age psychiatry is desirable.
• Experience in liaison psychiatry and working in an acute hospital setting.
• Excellent knowledge of the MHA and MCA, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Involvement in improvement and research activities.

Employment Details

• Hours: Full time, 10 sessions per week on a rota.
• Contract: Permanent.
• Out‑of‑hours on‑call frequency: low (1 in 30) with second‑tier cover and one day off thereafter.
• Location: Irwell Unit, Fairfield Hospital, Bury.
