Directorate General Manager - Medicine Care Group

We are seeking two dynamic and ambitious leaders to join the Medicine Care Group as Directorate General Managers. These pivotal roles will provide strategic and operational leadership across large, complex clinical directorates, driving performance, service transformation, quality improvement, and outstanding patient care.

Working as part of an experienced triumvirate leadership team, you will lead multidisciplinary services, deliver against demanding operational objectives, and help shape the future of one of the largest Care Groups within NUH.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced healthcare leader with a proven track record of delivering improvement, leading through change, and inspiring teams in a complex NHS environment.

The Directorate GM roles cover:

  • Emergency and Acute Care (EAC) - secondment for 12 months
  • GENeRSIS - permanent role

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Care Group Leadership Team and the Director of Operations, the post holder will have operational responsibility for the Directorate in the Care Group to ensure that all operational performance targets including waiting lists, finance, workforce and service improvement targets are achieved. The post holder will actively contribute to service integration and to the development of services in their Care Group, and where appropriate the wider Nottingham health and social care system.

Supporting the Care Group Director of Operations, the post holder is responsible for the operational day to day planning, monitoring and delivery of all patient services within the Directorate.

The post holder will be responsible for leading on, and delivering success across, a number of key programmes within the Directorate. These programmes will be essential in ensuring that the Care Group can deliver its primary objectives and targets over the years and will encompass a range of topics including productivity and efficiency, transformation, clinical effectiveness, quality and workforce succession planning.

Person Specification

Training and Qualifications

  • oEducated to first degree level
  • oFurther training to masters level or equivalent experience
  • oPrevious successful management experience at a senior level with applicable specialist knowledge

Experience

  • oHighly developed leadership and organisational skills
  • oExperience of leading and managing substantial service change and redesign in a complex environment
  • oHighly developed specialist knowledge of NHS policy, health sector practices and functions of NHS provider organisations and current targets in place and functions of NHS provider organisations and current targets in place
  • oClear understanding of NHS agenda
  • oHigh level understanding of NHS contracting and funding flows
  • oProven track record of senior operational management in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • oExtensive experience of influencing decision making within a large and complex organisation
  • oExperience in analysing performance of are of activity in relation to performance targets, strategic objectives; develop strategies, business plans, advise in areas where expert opinion differs
  • oExperience in managing large budgets for multiple departments and or services of major area of activity; responsible for overall budget setting for major area of activity
  • oSignificant senior management experience within a complex organisation
  • oExperience of management relevant to clinical directorate

  • oProven track record of managing operating budgets and delivering financial balance
  • oExperience of implementing and evaluating a range of projects, / initiatives that represent solutions to changing workforce / service environments

Planning and Organisation

  • oExperience of formulating ;long term strategic plans and impact on the organisation - translating business strategy into operational delivery
  • oProven track record of developing successful business plans and strategy for planning activity
  • oExperience of managing complex organisational change, including working with clinical & non-clinical staff to change team structures and ways of working
  • oConfident in presenting complex information to wide and varied audience both internal and external to the organisation
