4 Session Salaried GP – fixed‑term contract July 2026 to March 2027 – Overton Park Surgery, Cheltenham.
Main duties of the job
- 4 sessions a week available
- Friendly and cohesive existing team
- Comprehensive clinical and clerical support
- Session structure mostly same‑day appointments
- No usual Dr list, much reduced letters, chronic disease, blood results and prescription management
- Flexible working arrangements
- Regular team meetings, we endeavour to check in on each other during the day, preferably with coffee and cake

About us
Overton Park Surgery is a busy GP practice based in central Cheltenham. We are a training practice with a strong learning culture, a supportive clinical team consisting of 7 GP Partners, 6 Salaried GPs, pharmacist, practice nurses, HCAs, GPAs and PCN ARRS staff.
The practice has an excellent reputation in Cheltenham and staff turnover is low.
Job responsibilities
- a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
- b. The provision of services commensurate with the GMS contract
- c. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance
- d. Effective management of long‑term conditions
- e. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
- f. On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles
- g. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
- h. Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload
- i. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process
- j. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
- k. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required
- l. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance, training, financial management and HR
- m. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
- n. Prepare and complete the revalidation process
- o. Commit to self‑learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team
- p. Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines
- q. Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure
- r. Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies at all times
- s. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times
Person Specification
Experience
- Experience of working in a primary care environment
- Experience of continued professional development
- Experience of QOF and clinical audit
- General understanding of the GMS contract
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
- Outstanding level of clinical knowledge and skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
- Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
- Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Problem solving & analytical skills
- Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
- Experience with clinical risk management

Qualifications
- Qualified GP
- MRCGP
- Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
- General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
- Full GMC Registration
- National Performers List registration
- Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
- Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
- Experience of medicines management
- Experience of ICB/NHSE initiatives
