Vice President & General Manager

Overview

Nexstar Media, Inc., America’s largest local broadcasting company, seeks a Vice President/General Manager to lead WIAT (CBS) in Birmingham, Alabama (DMA 45), including all digital, mobile, and social assets associated with the station. The GM will also serve as the station’s Director of Sales.

Birmingham is a growing metro offering the feel of a big market with a close-knit community, a revitalized downtown, strong healthcare and university presence, and a recognized local culture.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for WIAT, its digital assets, and related platforms across television, digital, mobile, and social channels.
• Lead operational and sales-driven teams with a focus on revenue growth, audience engagement, and content effectiveness.
• Develop and deploy locally originated content for OTT, linear, web, and social platforms to expand reach and engagement.
• Promote a culture of teamwork across all station departments, drive operational efficiencies, and support programming performance improvements.
• Engage with local community leaders and key clients to build long-term relationships and local revenue opportunities.
• Oversee administration of inventory, pricing, political sales processes, and revenue forecasting while ensuring strong collaboration with department heads.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of leadership experience at a commercial broadcast television station with accompanying digital assets.
• Proven track record in local broadcasting, digital service to the community, and strategic execution with demonstrated community involvement.
• Strong background in developing new business and revenue opportunities, including managing inventory, rates, political sales processes, and forecasting.
• History of managing high-performing sales and news teams and collaborating effectively with department heads and staff.
• Ability to engage local community leaders and develop lasting relationships with station clients.
