Principal Planning Consultant
London | £49,000–£61,000 plus benefits
A planning and regeneration consultancy is recruiting a Principal Planning Consultant in London for work spanning planning policy, development strategy and delivery advice.
The projects
The team is currently advising on strategic planning, local plan evidence, regeneration frameworks, housing delivery and public‑sector advisory work. Projects range from early feasibility and site appraisal through to applications, negotiation, appeals and delivery advice.
Your part in them
You will work across strategic planning, local plan evidence, regeneration frameworks, housing delivery and public‑sector advisory work. Depending on seniority, you will lead or support instructions from initial appraisal to determination and beyond.
- Prepare clear planning appraisals, statements and strategic advice.
- Manage planning applications and coordinate technical inputs.
- Maintain regular, professional communication with clients and project teams.
- Negotiate constructively with local planning authorities and other stakeholders.
- Review work produced by junior colleagues and support their development.
- Contribute to fee proposals, client development and the commercial management of projects.
About you
Mrtpi; policy or strategic planning experience; strong research, writing and stakeholder skills. You should also be organised, dependable and able to explain planning issues in straightforward language. The business is interested in people who value good advice and long‑term client relationships rather than unnecessary internal politics.
You are not expected to know everything on day one. What matters is a sound academic base, some practical understanding of the planning system and the judgement to ask for support when needed.

Package and working arrangements
The salary is £49,000–£61,000 plus benefits. The wider package includes hybrid working, pension, healthcare, professional fees and varied national project exposure. Exact arrangements will depend on experience and will be discussed openly during the process.
