Locum Consultant Anaesthetist

We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist for 1 Year fixed term – to an enthusiastic, innovative and highly motivated individual to join our department of anaesthesia and intensive. The department is dedicated to delivering high quality consultant‑led peri‑operative care. This is an exciting time as we embark on significant redevelopment and expansion of our critical care environment to future‑proof our service provision.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join an established, successful, enthusiastic and ACSA accredited team in delivering quality anaesthetic, peri‑operative and critical care services to the local West Dorset population and adjoining areas. Anaesthetic support will be provided for surgical teams including Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Maxillo‑facial, ENT (adult and paediatric), Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, Paediatric Dental, Colorectal, Renal Access and General Surgery. Support is also provided in the radiology suite, endoscopy unit and for dental sedation.
Applicants should have obtained their CCT and be on the Specialist Register. Ideally, they will have had previous experience at a consultant level in the UK.
Job responsibilities
In addition to the main duties, there will be a commitment to teaching within normal clinical work. Specialist interest will be accommodated to complement the skills of the successful appointee.
Person Specification
Education and Training
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCTs in Anaesthesia and ICM CESR or European Community Rights
- An appropriate higher qualification in Anaesthesia (FRCA or equivalent)
- An appropriate higher qualification in Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent experience
Experience and Knowledge
- 7 years clinical experience in Anaesthesia, including at least one in UK
- Experience demonstrating potential ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant
- Willingness and ability to fulfil the general service elements of the job description
Current Skills and Abilities
- Evidence of the clinical skills required to fulfil the specialty and sub‑specialty elements of the job as in the job description and technical specification
Team working and service development
- Evidence of leadership and service development
- Ability to develop effective working relationships and team working
Understanding and participation in Clinical Governance
- Evidence of understanding of clinical governance
- Knowledge of and direct involvement in audit
- Knowledge of principles of research and evidence of involvement in research
Management Training, Organisational Skills and Strategic Vision
- Evidence of general management training and skills appropriate for the post
- Evidence of ability to contribute to the strategic direction of the Trust
- Knowledge of organisational aspects of the NHS
Teaching and communication
- Evidence of teaching experience and abilities appropriate to the post.

- Ability to communicate effectively
