Main duties of the job

The salaried GP will provide high-quality, patient-centred primary care as part of the practices clinical team. Responsibilities include consulting with patients for acute, chronic and preventive healthcare needs, managing undifferentiated presentations and ensuring safe follow-up and continuity of care. The role involves face-to-face and remote consultations, requesting and interpreting investigations, completing medication reviews, prescribing within governance policies and undertaking home visits when required. The GP will maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to safeguarding by adhering to local and statutory policies.

The postholder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, including nursing, pharmacy, ANP and social prescribing staff, to deliver coordinated care. They will support the practice in meeting QOF, Enhanced Services and contractual requirements, and take part in clinical meetings, audits, significant event reviews and quality improvement work. Administrative tasks such as reviewing results, processing prescriptions, actioning correspondence and managing clinical queries are part of the role. Participation in the practice rota, including duty doctor sessions where needed, is expected, alongside maintaining professional development in line with GMC revalidation.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. Theremay be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • a. Thedelivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
  • b. Theprovision of services commensurate with the primary care contract
  • c. Genericprescribing adhering to local and national guidance
  • d. Effectivemanagement of long-term conditions
  • e. Processingof administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeatprescription requests and other associated administrative tasks.
  • f. Ona rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles.
  • g. Maintainaccurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy, andguidance.
  • h. Workcollaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload, includingbut not limited to; home visits, extended hours cover, the review andprocessing of test results, and patient specific medical reports.
  • i. Adhereto best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the auditprocess.
  • j. Contributeto the successful implementation of continuous improvement and qualityinitiatives within the practice.
  • k. Acceptdelegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF.
  • l. Attendand contribute effectively to practice meetings as required.
  • m. Contributeeffective to the development and maintenance of the practice includingclinical governance and training.
  • n. Ensurecompliance with the appraisal process.
  • o. Prepareand complete the revalidation process.
  • p. Committo self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional developmentacross the practice team.
  • q. Supportthe training of medical students from all clinical disciplines.
  • r. Supportthe partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, makingrecommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure.
  • s. Reviewand always adhere to practice protocols and policies.
  • t. Encouragecollaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting aculture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • MRCGP (Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners) or equivalent qualification
  • GMC full registration with a licence to practise
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice, or equivalent recognised training
  • Inclusion on the NHS GP Performers List (or eligibility for inclusion)
  • Have the legal right to work in the UK.

Experience

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Applications.
  • Experience of practice based evidence based approach to medicine including patient evaluation and triage procedures.
  • Experience of working with Integrated Care Boards / Services (previously CCGs) or other stakeholders working directives.
  • Knowledge and delivery of the Quality Outcome Framework QOF.
  • Understanding of current guidelines in a GP Practice.
  • Experience of developing and completing audits, analysing results / data.
  • Experience of implementing change and improvement in primary care.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and quality issues.
  • Experience of managing incident investigations and complaints.
  • Problem solving and a solution focused approach.
  • Good clinical skills and awareness of patient sensitivity.
  • Innovative and keen to explore new ways of delivery.
  • Knowledge of NHS.Have an understanding of the needs of the vulnerable groups of patients that are registered.
