The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Locum Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (CAMHS) to support a specialist CAMHS Service in the West Midlands.

This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 schedule, providing structured and consistent work within a multidisciplinary child and adolescent mental health setting. It is ideally suited to experienced consultants who are passionate about delivering high-quality mental health care to children, young people, and their families.

You will provide senior clinical leadership within the service, managing complex cases, supporting junior medical staff, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary and multi‑agency teams to ensure safe, effective, and recovery‑focused care.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide consultant-level leadership within a CAMHS service
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for children and adolescents
  • Take clinical responsibility for a caseload of young people presenting with a range of mental health conditions
  • Manage complex presentations including anxiety disorders, depression, self-harm, psychosis, ADHD, ASD, eating disorders, trauma‑related conditions, and emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Lead multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical reviews, and care planning discussions
  • Undertake risk assessments and develop robust risk‑management plans for vulnerable young people
  • Work closely with families, carers, schools, social care services, and partner agencies to provide integrated care
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes and provide clinical leadership in complex safeguarding cases
  • Prepare Mental Health Act reports and attend tribunals where required
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and support to junior doctors and multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Participate in service development, clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
  • Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, professionalism, and clinical care

What We're Looking For

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent qualification (CESR)
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility)
  • Section 12 Approval
  • Approved Clinician Status (desirable)
  • Significant UK experience working at Consultant level within CAMHS
  • Experience managing complex child and adolescent mental health presentations
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and multi‑agency working
  • Experience with Mental Health Act assessments, tribunals, and CAMHS care pathways
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision‑making skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care
  • Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
