Rural Adviser / Surveyor

CLA East is looking for a Rural Adviser / Surveyor

Job description

Rural Adviser / Surveyor

CLA East Region | Newmarket, Suffolk

Beach Baker is delighted to be working in partnership with the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) to recruit a Rural Adviser or Surveyor for their East region team.

This is a genuinely varied role offering the opportunity to make a tangible difference to rural businesses, landowners and estates across the region. With significant infrastructure projects progressing across the East of England, including major National Grid and Anglian Water schemes, this position will place you at the heart of some of the most important land use and rural property issues currently affecting the countryside.

Working as part of a highly respected regional team, you will provide land and property advice to CLA members whilst also playing an important role in stakeholder engagement, relationship management and influencing outcomes on behalf of rural communities.

You'll work directly with farmers, landowners, professional advisers, infrastructure providers, local authorities and policymakers, helping members navigate complex challenges and opportunities. The role combines technical advisory work with representation, communication and engagement activities, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships and becoming a trusted adviser.

The Role

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Advising CLA members on a broad range of land, property and rural business matters.
  • Supporting landowners affected by major infrastructure projects, utilities schemes and compulsory purchase matters.
  • Engaging with stakeholders including infrastructure promoters, local authorities, MPs and industry bodies.
  • Representing the interests of rural businesses and landowners through meetings, consultations and industry forums.
  • Producing guidance, articles, presentations and member communications.
  • Supporting policy development by identifying emerging issues affecting members.
  • Attending events, shows, seminars and member meetings across the region.

You will be working with other Rural Advisers and Surveyors on land management and property issues such as agricultural, commercial and residential tenancies, planning, diversification, renewables, public access, infrastructure projects, compulsory purchase and other issues experienced by rural farms, estates and businesses

About You

The CLA is open-minded regarding background and experience. Whilst knowledge of infrastructure projects, utilities or compulsory purchase matters would be advantageous, it is not essential.

More important is the ability to be proactive, confident and comfortable engaging with people at all levels. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys building relationships, communicating clearly and taking ownership of their work.

Why Join the CLA?

This is a unique opportunity to work on issues that genuinely matter to rural communities. You'll have the chance to influence outcomes, support members through periods of change, and become involved in some of the region's most significant infrastructure and land use projects.

The role offers exceptional variety, a high level of responsibility, and the opportunity to add real value every day while developing an extensive professional network across the rural sector.
