Job description
Design Manager (3 Positions Available)
Location: London (Acton, Hayes & Chertsey)
Sector: Data Centres & Mission Critical Construction
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + Package
The Opportunity
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, an exciting opportunity has arisen for three Design Managers to join a leading specialist contractor delivering some of the UK's most prestigious hyperscale data centre developments.
With opportunities available across Acton, Hayes and Chertsey, you'll become part of a highly experienced project team delivering technically demanding schemes from pre-construction through to completion. These are flagship projects featuring cutting-edge engineering, complex building services and fast-paced construction programmes, making them ideal for Design Managers looking to develop their careers within one of construction's fastest-growing sectors.
You'll be joining a business where design is seen as a critical part of successful project delivery. Rather than simply managing information, you'll be actively involved in coordinating teams, solving technical challenges and ensuring every stage of the project progresses efficiently from concept through to handover.
Role Overview
As Design Manager, you'll take ownership of the design process on your allocated project, ensuring information is coordinated, issued on programme and fully supports the delivery teams throughout construction.
Working alongside Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams and external consultants, you'll coordinate multidisciplinary design packages, manage technical queries and ensure potential issues are identified and resolved before they affect programme or site operations. You'll become the link between the design office and the construction team, making sure information flows efficiently and everyone is working towards the same objectives.
You'll lead regular design meetings, monitor consultant performance and maintain close relationships with specialist subcontractors to ensure designs remain practical, buildable and commercially viable. Throughout the project, you'll also review technical submissions, manage design changes and support procurement by ensuring accurate information is available when required.
No two days will be the same. One day you'll be chairing consultant meetings and reviewing technical solutions, while the next you'll be working alongside the site team resolving construction challenges or collaborating with the client to deliver the best possible outcome.
About You
You'll already have experience working as a Design Manager or Assistant Design Manager within the construction industry and enjoy coordinating multiple disciplines to deliver successful projects.
You understand the importance of programme management, communication and collaboration, and you're confident building relationships with consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams alike. You're someone who enjoys solving technical problems, taking ownership of your work and ensuring projects continue moving forward, even when faced with challenging design constraints.
Previous experience delivering data centres would certainly be advantageous, although candidates from commercial, healthcare, industrial, life sciences, pharmaceutical, defence or other technically complex sectors are equally encouraged to apply.
You'll ideally hold a construction-related degree or equivalent qualification and possess a strong understanding of the design process, construction methodology and current building regulations. Most importantly, you'll be someone who wants to continue developing their career within a business delivering some of the UK's most exciting construction projects.
Company Profile
This specialist contractor has earned an outstanding reputation delivering complex projects across the data centre, defence and energy sectors. Combining design, engineering and construction expertise, they deliver technically challenging developments for some of the world's largest organisations.
With multiple live projects, an expanding order book and continued investment across the business, they offer genuine long-term career progression alongside the opportunity to work on landmark developments that are shaping the UK's digital infrastructure.
