Application Support – Banking - London

4 days a week on site, 1 day remote


An Application Support specialist is required by a well-established mid-tier bank to support their core banking applications and systems. They are a long-standing UK bank offering private and commercial banking, wealth planning, and investment management, built on relationship-led service backed by modern technology.


The Role


You'll support their core banking applications and systems, resolving incidents and problems that affect the services the business relies on, and help design and implement new systems alongside senior technical leadership. The team is split across an Application Support function and two specialist support teams. Expect a mix of roughly half hands-on troubleshooting, a third working with external technology suppliers, and the remainder supporting change projects — currently weighted toward reactive work, with an ongoing shift toward more proactive monitoring.

Customer outcomes and regulatory conduct standards sit at the centre of the role.


Key Responsibilities


  • Resolve incidents and requests within SLA
  • Manage problems using an ITIL-aligned approach
  • Identify and mitigate technology risks
  • Maintain documentation and knowledge articles supporting information security and compliance standards
  • Perform regular health checks on critical services
  • Remediate vulnerabilities from security testing and scanning
  • Build out proactive monitoring and alerting
  • Share knowledge and coach colleagues across the wider IT function


Requirements


  • Experience in application support within Financial Services, ideally banking
  • Knowledge of banking platforms and their security/assurance requirements
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications on Linux, with database and middleware platforms
  • Confidence managing third-party vendor relationships against SLAs
  • Familiarity with UK payment schemes and payment technologies
  • Experience within ITIL and information security management frameworks
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring/alerting tools
  • Ability to write SQL queries, stored procedures, and reports
  • Experience configuring Single Sign-On solutions
  • Strong experience with an enterprise IT service management platform (change, incident, problem, and asset management)
