Lead Electronics Engineer – Defence & Space Systems


Location: Oxford

Salary: Circa £100,000

Working arrangement: Hybrid


I’m recruiting on behalf of a leading technology organisation seeking a Lead Electronics Engineer to lead the development of advanced electronics for FPGA and ASIC-based space systems.


This is a senior technical leadership position offering responsibility across the full hardware development lifecycle - from specification and detailed circuit design through to manufacture, integration, testing and space qualification.


The role

As Lead Electronics Engineer, you will:

  • Lead complex electronic hardware development and manufacturing activities.
  • Design high-speed digital circuits featuring FPGA, ASIC and SerDes technologies.
  • Direct the design of complex multilayer and HDI PCBs.
  • Support hardware, software and systems integration, validation and qualification.
  • Coordinate internal engineers, PCB layout teams and external manufacturing partners.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring across multidisciplinary engineering teams.


Your background

You will ideally bring:

  • Extensive experience in electronic hardware or electronics product design.
  • A background in space, aerospace, defence or another safety critical industry.
  • Strong high-speed digital design and SerDes interconnect experience.
  • Experience designing complex multi layer HDI PCBs.
  • Knowledge of FPGA or ASIC-based systems.
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB design and circuit simulation tools.
  • The ability to lead complex projects and influence multidisciplinary teams.
