Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To manage Environmental, Health and Safety risks and responsibilities across the client’s portfolio at a strategic level, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards, assisting employees. To be the lead contact for the Facilities team, for issues relating to environmental, Health & Safety. Provide clear, effective Health and Safety advice, supporting risk mitigation, and the development of a strong, proactive safety culture throughout Europe.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

GENERAL:

  • Implement & manage applicable EH&S standards, tools, programs and work processes.
  • Assist organization and client in the implementation of health hazard assessments and injury/illness prevention strategies, the development of environmental health and safety plans, and SOPs.
  • Conduct EH&S performance assessments and improvement activities.
  • Ensure that all regulatory/statutory documentation is in place and up to date, working with FM team and contractors.
  • Support the implementation of the Safety Training Program, which may include developing, coordinating and conducting safety training of safety programs.
  • Assist with EH&S orientation and indoctrination training to new employees.
  • Act as the competent person under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, providing guidance, support and training where required.
  • Responsible for monitoring and responding to employee questions and suggestions regarding EHS issues.
  • Timely completion of regular and ad-hoc reports to the authorities, clients or management as required.
  • Write policies, procedures and programs as required.



HEALTH & SAFETY:

  • Perform work site safety compliance inspections including hazard and risk identification and hazard analysis, safe work procedures, risk management, report writing including recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Provide support to organization and client to facilitate integration and implementation of environmental health and safety practices into existing and planned operations.
  • Work with facilities team and issue safe work permits for facility upgrades.
  • Assist with ergonomic assessments and training, such as DSE (Display Screen Equipment).
  • Completion of required investigations, inspections and maintenance of all EHS systems and processes.
  • Support Emergency response planning and troubleshooting, EHS and welfare related problems.
  • Support and work with FM team to ensure compliance and required documentation for internal and external audits (e.g.: ISO45001).


ENVIRONMENT:

  • Coordinate local Industry Hygiene monitoring and health surveillance programs.
  • Liaises with regional SFM and FM team to understand decisions about real estate strategies and workplace solutions and services to support EH&S activity.
  • Support environmental due diligence for properties to include new leases, existing leases and site closures.
  • Assist in supporting environmental and sustainable guidance and best practices in region and globe.
  • Support and work with FM team to ensure compliance and required documentation for internal and external audits (e.g.: ISO14001).



SKILLS:

  • Communicates clearly and confidently cross multicultural and multinational environments.
  • Responsive to client needs through proper planning and prioritisation.
  • Needs to be able to deal with a variety of situations such as incident investigations, conflicts etc.
  • Ability to lead and foster teamwork.
  • Excellent English language skills (written and verbal).
  • Works in a high level of autonomy, judgement and independence.
  • Ability to travel 15% (majority within UK).


EDUCATION:

  • An undergraduate degree in a Health & Safety related discipline essential
  • NEBOSH qualification is desirable.
  • IOSH certification.
  • IEMA Foundation Certificate
  • IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management


EXPERIENCE:

  • Thorough understanding of Health and Safety regulatory requirements, across the portfolio, primarily in UK and Europe.
  • Evidence of significant Health and Safety management experience, including the auditing of premises and dealing with enforcement agencies.
  • Moderate work experience in industrial EH&S.
  • Experience of Premises Safety checks including Water, Asbestos, Fire Risk Assessments and Management/Fire Life Safety.
  • Training in:
  • ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety)
  • ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
