Skin Biology Scientist / Senior Research Technician

BiotixAI is looking for a Skin Biology Scientist / Senior Research Technician

Job description

We’re hiring | Skin Biology Scientist / Research Technician

Oxford - BioEscalator Headington | Full Time or Part-time 6months contract

Biotix is an early-stage biotech developing biology-first, data-driven platforms to support innovation in skin health, microbiome science, and applied R&D.

We work with international industry partners to translate advanced biological models into robust, decision-ready skin assays that can be reliably used in industrial and translational settings.

As part of a new skin biology program, we are looking for a Skin Biology Scientist / Research Technician to support the development and execution of in vitro and ex vivo skin assay platforms.

This is a hands-on, applied laboratory role. We will consider candidates at different levels of seniority, provided they have direct, practical experience with advanced skin models.

The role can be full-time or part-time, based in Oxford BioEscalator, with flexibility depending on experience and availability.

Working style

We value a pragmatic, proactive, execution-focused approach, with clear alignment and the ability to work with minimal supervision within a small, fast-moving team.

Major Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain, and run skin organoculture / ex vivo human skin models
  • Develop and operate 3D skin equivalent / reconstructed skin in vitro models
  • Culture immortalised skin cell lines and primary human keratinocytes and fibroblasts
  • Perform immunohistochemistry (IHC) and imaging-based readouts
  • Carry out RNA extraction and RT-qPCR
  • Culturing microbes and probiotics
  • Support experimental design, execution, and troubleshooting
  • Implement and follow existing SOPs and protocols, avoiding unnecessary reinvention
  • Manage laboratory consumables, ordering, and suppliers
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and documentation
  • Contribute to technical and scientific discussions to support R&D milestones

Basic Qualifications and Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with skin organoculture and/or 3D skin equivalent in vitro models
  • Experience working with primary keratinocytes and fibroblasts
  • Experience with IHC, imaging, and molecular readouts
  • Ability to work independently and reliably
  • Practical, detail-oriented approach to laboratory work
  • Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving startup environment
  • Fluent in English (written and oral)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial, CRO, or translational R&D environments
  • Familiarity with skin biology in cosmetic or dermatological contexts
  • Willingness to learn additional techniques as required by the project
  • MSc or PhD in a relevant life science discipline, or equivalent practical experience
