Job description

  • Lead the software team and collaborate with technical teams to build and maintain long-term roadmaps for software projects
  • Capture feature requests from internal discussions and external requirements
  • Manage conflicting priorities and deliver according to company needs and timescales
  • Drive detailed software solutions with the software team
  • Provide clear updates on issues and progress to stakeholders
  • Own and maintain the software team’s backlog with team members and project management
  • Serve as the first point of contact for understanding the software architecture at a high level
  • Ensure the software team’s effectiveness, efficiency, delivery speed, and quality
  • Support team members and look after their wellbeing
  • Conduct performance reviews and support career development
  • Plan future software team growth with the SVP of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer
  • Define and evolve internal team and DevOps processes
  • Develop stronger cross-team interfaces and processes
  • Establish and drive development, DevOps, release, and third-line support processes
  • Specify a modular full-stack software solution spanning real-time control and monitoring, IR and quantum compiler layers, and application demonstration

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing a software organisation containing tens of engineers and subject matter experts
  • Track record of setting priorities, giving clear expectations, and ensuring results meet internal and external customer needs
  • Ability to distinguish critical items from urgent items
  • Proven ability to delegate appropriately while maintaining quality and delivery pace in a high-tech startup
  • Detailed technical background in more than one of: real-time embedded software, compiler development, assembler development, graph algorithmic representations, system monitoring, data centre deployments
  • Clear understanding of standard software development processes
  • Pragmatic approach to applying software development processes in a growing organisation
  • Excellent technical and organisational communication skills across the organisation and with external stakeholders
  • Understanding of branching and release practices, and when to use them
  • Understanding of how to organise internal triage and support as the external customer base grows
  • Experience tracking delivery of new features, including scoping, estimation, release planning, and tracking is desirable
  • Previous exposure to quantum systems is not required
