Spirit maintains high standards of development and fit through dedicated designers, pattern cutters, and machinists in London. A hub office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, works with a portfolio of factories and an on-the-ground QC team to closely control production and ensure consistent garment quality. Current clients include brands such as Nobody’s Child, Oliver Bonas, Whistles, Monsoon, Phase Eight, and Albaray.
Role Description:
The Experienced Cutter will work on-site in the London Area, United Kingdom, within the in-house sample room, cutting fabric for womenswear garments to precise patterns and specifications. This contract, full-time role involves laying out and marking fabric, ensuring accurate grain alignment, and cutting samples to support design, development, and fit processes. The Experienced Cutter will collaborate with designers, pattern cutters, and machinists to interpret technical packs, resolve cutting issues, and maintain high standards of garment quality. Daily tasks include checking fabric quality, organizing cut pieces, maintaining a tidy and safe cutting area, and meeting production timelines. The role may also involve contributing to improvements in production cutting methods and supporting the onboarding of new styles and fabrics.
Qualifications:
- Strong experience in fabric cutting for womenswear, including woven and jersey garments, and proven ability to work from patterns and technical specifications.
- Confident in minimising wastage, calculating consumptions and identifying the most efficient layplan for production.
- Proficiency in using cutting tools and equipment (manual and, if applicable, automated), with solid knowledge of fabric behavior, grain, and lay planning.
- Attention to detail and quality-focused approach, including checking fabric for flaws, ensuring accurate cutting, and minimizing waste.
- Effective collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with designers, pattern cutters, machinists, and production teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including ability to prioritize workloads and meet tight sample and production deadlines.
- Understanding of garment construction and fit, enabling informed decisions during cutting and proactive problem-solving.
- Previous experience in a sample room or clothing manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
- Commitment to safe working practices and maintaining a clean, efficient workspace; openness to learning and adapting to new styles and sustainable fabrics.
