Service Care Solutions are currently working alongside a Local Authority based in West Yorkshire , who are seeking an experienced Principal Planning and Highways Lawyer to join their established Legal Services team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal professional looking to take on a senior and influential role within a large Local Authority legal team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in providing specialist legal advice across a broad range of planning, highways and related local government matters.

Location: West Yorkshire

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience

As a Principal Planning and Highways Lawyer, you will be one of the lead legal professionals within the Planning and Highways team, providing high-quality, practical and strategic legal advice to senior officers, Council departments and elected members.

You will manage a varied and often complex caseload, covering planning, highways, public rights of way, environmental and public law matters. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the team and further enhance your management and leadership skills.

Responsibilities as a Principal Planning and Highways Lawyer:

  • Managing a complex caseload of Planning and Highways matters from initial instruction through to completion.
  • Providing specialist legal advice to senior officers, elected members and other internal stakeholders.
  • Drafting, negotiating and advising on Section 106 Agreements and Section 278 Agreements.
  • Advising on a wide range of planning matters, including major developments, planning applications and planning obligations.

About you as a Principal Planning and Highways Lawyer:

  • Be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEx with relevant rights and experience.
  • Have substantial and recent experience at a senior level in Planning Law and/or Highways Law within England and Wales.
  • Have experience managing a complex and varied caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Have strong knowledge of Section 106 and Section 278 Agreements.
  • Have experience advising on planning enforcement, public law and other associated legal matters.
