Pre Construction Design Manager - Glazing

Future Build Recruitment is looking for a Pre Construction Design Manager - Glazing

Job description

We are working with an established business within the architectural glazing and façade sector that is looking to appoint an experienced Pre-Construction Design Manager.

This role will focus on taking projects from tender and handover through the design process, ensuring designs are practical, coordinated and suitable for manufacture and installation.

The Role

You’ll work closely with Estimators, Contracts Managers, clients and external design teams to manage the progression of design packages through to construction status.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attending project handovers with the Estimating and Contracts teams to understand the project requirements and design scope.
  • Coordinating with subcontract design teams and establishing design programmes and approval timeframes.
  • Managing the progression of design between the client and external designers.
  • Managing client design portals such as Procore, identifying design changes and ensuring these are communicated to the relevant teams.
  • Establishing and maintaining client drawing protocols, including drawing numbers and status requirements.
  • Reviewing technical submissions against the original tender design.
  • Identifying design variances and working with the Commercial Manager where these arise.
  • Attending design meetings with clients and driving designs through to construction status.
  • Reviewing manufacturing drawings before release to ensure all necessary information is present and coordinated.
  • Working closely with internal teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable and suitable for manufacture and installation.

About You

We're looking for someone with a good understanding of architectural glazing and façade systems, ideally with experience in a design management or pre-construction environment.

You'll ideally have knowledge of:

  • Architectural glazing and cladding.
  • Door systems.
  • Door ironmongery and activation, including some understanding of automation and manual closers.
  • Design buildability and construction methodologies.
  • Working with external/subcontract design teams.
  • Managing design information and coordinating changes.

A key part of the role is being able to look beyond the client's design intent and understand whether something can actually be manufactured and installed effectively.

If you're currently working within architectural glazing, façades or a related construction environment and have experience coordinating design through pre-construction, we'd be keen to hear from you.
