HR Manager (Part-Time)

ABASK is looking for a HR Manager (Part-Time)

Job description

Company Description ABASK showcases exceptional craftsmanship and design by connecting people with the world’s finest objects and makers. The company curates pieces from over 200 local and global artisans, presented in an intuitively designed e-commerce environment focused on outstanding customer experience and service. ABASK makes it easy to discover rare, exclusive, and one-of-a-kind gifts, collector’s items, and interior design pieces, shipping to over 165 countries within one to four days. With an emphasis on quality materials and time-honed techniques, ABASK inspires appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, design icons, and modern heirlooms, along with the stories behind them.

About the Role

ABASK has grown to over 40 employees with offices in London and New York, with HR handled to date by our Senior Finance Manager alongside their core role. As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced HR professional to build and own our in-house HR function on a genuinely part-time basis (2-3 days per week). This is a great opportunity for someone with a wealth of HR experience who isn't looking for a full-time role — whether you're semi-retired, balancing family commitments, or simply looking for a flexible next chapter. You'll bring seasoned judgement to the day-to-day employee lifecycle (contracts, onboarding, records, commission checks, and leaver documentation), help managers develop their teams and run performance reviews, handle grievances and disciplinaries, and shape the policies — from health & safety to training — that support ABASK as it scales.

Key Responsibilities

HR Leadership & Advisory

•    Act as ABASK's primary in-house HR point of contact, advising the senior team and line managers on HR matters

•    Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures appropriate for a 40+ person business

•    Ensure ongoing compliance with UK employment law as the business grows

•    Be key contact person for US payroll provider

•    Work with the Senior Finance Manager to transition HR ownership fully in-house

Performance & Employee Relations

•    Help managers design and run an effective, consistent performance review process across teams

•    Coach and support line managers in developing their teams and giving constructive feedback

•    Advise on sensitive employee relations issues, escalating to external legal or specialist advice where needed, and in line with ACAS guidance and UK employment law

Policy Development & Training

•    Craft and maintain company policies, including health & safety and training/development policies and monitor sickness registration

•    Keep the employee handbook and wider HR policy suite up to date as the business grows

Contracts & New Starters

•    Prepare and send out employment contracts and offer letter documentation

•    Coordinate onboarding paperwork and ensure all new starter documentation is completed before day one

•    Liaise with hiring managers and IT/payroll to confirm start dates and set-up requirements

Employee Records & Data Integrity

•    Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS and personnel files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality

•    Process changes to employee details (promotions, salary changes, role changes, address/bank updates)

•    Ensure all employee documentation is filed correctly and meets data protection and audit requirements

Commission & Payroll Support

•    Check and validate commission calculations against sales/performance data ahead of payroll cut-off

•    Investigate and resolve commission discrepancies with relevant managers

•    Liaise with payroll to ensure commission payments and employee changes are processed accurately and on time

Leavers & Offboarding

•    Coordinate offboarding checklists (equipment return, system access removal, exit interviews)

•    Ensure leaver records are updated accurately and in a timely manner across all HR systems

•    Issue references and respond to leaver-related queries in line with company policy

General HR Administration

•    Respond to employee queries regarding HR policies, contracts, and procedures

•    Support benefits administration and enrollment updates

•    Help prepare routine HR reports (headcount, starters/leavers, turnover, commission summaries)

•    Support compliance with employment law and internal HR policies

Requirements

•    8+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally as an HR Manager or senior HR generalist

•    Comfortable working independently and owning HR end-to-end as the sole in-house HR resource

•    Experience across the full employee lifecycle — contracts, records, performance reviews, grievances/disciplinaries, and policy development (including health & safety and training)

•    Solid working knowledge of UK employment law and ACAS guidance

•    High level of discretion, accuracy, and attention to detail

•    Able to commit to 2-3 fixed or flexible working days per week

What We Offer

•    Competitive part-time salary (pro rata) and benefits package

•    The opportunity to shape and own HR for an exciting fast growing business
